I don't think there has been any official word yet, but Rubin thinks Lagares may hit the DL (with Captain Kirk coming up from AAA).

I don't believe Young is eligible to return until Friday.

I'm guessing Lagares to the DL, Nieuwenhuis to be activated.

I'm less sure about Granderson; if he gets DLed, would it be den Dekker? Or Puello, perhaps? More likely den Dekker, I'd think.

You want an outfielder? How about THIS Las Vegas 51?

I think they'll "day to day" Granderson and if he can't go by Friday then you activate CYoung and retroactive Grandy's DL. Worst case scenario you're only short a man for two games.

Kirk! Bobby?

Bobby F. Abreu is the correct answer.

Still got those massive guns. Probably still capable of uncorking a throw from the warning track straight into the press booth.

No way, everyone knows that Bobby Abreu never goes near the warning track.

That made me laugh out loud. Really.

Edgy's comment reminded me of a comment about Oscar Gamble. A writer said (I paraphrase) "Its a good thing he has a strong arm, so when he misjudges a fly ball, he can hold the batter at second".

"The presence of him being here and the leadership he's always had, it's big for these guys," Backman said. "For a guy who's played in the bigs as long as he has and be down here, other players get to see his work ethic, his approach and that's very important.

"I don't foresee him being here long. What he can bring to the table at this point in his career is a very, very good left-handed bat off the bench in key situations."

I'm totally on board with Abreu being a LH pinch hitter/emergency outfielder, especially if it helps to trade Ike. And maybe they just demote Ike and see if he can't increase his value there.

I forgot we had Abreu over there. What's the downside to bringing him up?

Adding him to the 40 man?

Taking ABs away from young players with potential?

But if you're not going to bring him up with two hurt outfielders, would be never come up?

Depends on whether they are adding zero, one, or two to the DL.

Need to sort that out. Sometimes, like when two guys get hurt in Phoenix, it's good to have a top farm team in the PCL.

last word I saw was Nieuwenhuis on the Taxi Squad.

Abreu hasn't been good in years and isn't a particularly good defender. Someone's gotta play the outfield in Vegas though.

If Neiuwy keep this up, does Brown go down when Young comes up?
or do they keep both and send down Famiglia or Lannan?

You mean if he gets another 3 hits today with a HR? I doubt that's enough of a sample size to really change the plan (unless Granderson is more hurt than it seems I guess) and jump Kirk above Andrew on the depth chart.

I think they'd rather have the righty with Davis already on the bench too.

Gee will get a rehab start, so he will miss (at least) three.

d'Arnaud still feeling concussion symptoms.

Germen off rehab assignment but not returning to Mets. Rubin reports from Alderson that flu lingers, has abscess "not sure where".

And then there's this:

Dodgers Cuban infield prospect Alex Guerrero required plastic surgery Tuesday after his left ear was bitten by Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes teammate Miguel Olivo during a fight in the dugout.

Olivo, IIRC, was always a bit of a dick.

After the incident, was Olivo quoted as saying that his childhood idol was Mike Tyson?

We dont condone it, and we dont think its constructive, Colletti said at Citi Field, where the Dodgers were to play the New York Mets on Tuesday night. People can have disagreements. When it gets beyond that level, its over the limit.

You can't be any clearer about that. Tearing a piece off a teammate with your teeth is something the Dodgers do not condone. Thanks for clearing up any ambiguity about that, Ned. Other organizations may look the other way, but not you guys.

When your behavior is closer to cannibalism than not, the Dodgers think it's over the line. Colletti could not be clearer.

After barely missing a game for his whole career up to this point -- 157+ games EVERY season for eight years including 162 four times.
Bit of a tough break for Rangers, but that's part of the risk dealing for guys with long-term deals that extend through their 30s (just turned 30 last week).

Throw Colorado's Nolan Arenado onto the pile of guys breaking fingers via head-first slides.
At least this one wasn't 1st base.

I'd never heard of Arenado, I think, before our trip to Colorado. He looked like the perfectest ballplayer during that series. And that was a series that included Troy Tulowitzki, also at the top of his game. Crap injury for the Rockies.
