That Lazy No Good Justin Turner

Rubin reports the fella who rushed to pie his mates was let go because he didn't exactly bust it down the line to first.

A Mets official finally offered a reason for Justin Turner's non-tender.

The source told ESPNNewYork.com that Turner's propensity for not running hard irked the front office, which had finally seen enough.

Turner, arbitration-eligible, likely was due to make less than $1 million in 2014.

He should have no trouble finding a job this offseason. Among Turner's longtime fans is Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez.

I wouldn't have observed this as a chronic thing, but Turner did get fat. And wasn't he injured on a play that most often strikes middle-age softball players?

Nothing more worthless than a backup who can't be around to back up.

That said, those Mets People are brutal with the smears.

To paraphrase Jim Bouton, we front-officed good, but boy did they display heretofore unremarked upon personality traits bad.

Also didn't hit until the last five weeks of the season or so. I'm not sure what he brought at all the last two years. I got the idea that he loved his job way too much, and seemed way too secure in it.

Not missing Turner. Missing classy organizational instincts. "We thought we could upgrade" would've sufficed from One Met Official.

Yeah, and maybe it would be nice to have Sandy step out and make a statement along the lines of "Love him and wish him well."

Hey, don't knock it. It's something like our most longstanding holiday tradition, outside of shitcanning Santa Claus. (And speaking of which: hey!)

exactly. Who freakin' asked? I guess Rubin did but who freakin cares? I'm a Turner fan and I didn't question the move. Maybe I would when I see the bench at the start of next season but I haven't even given it a second thought since it happened. I was surprised but I figured they got something in the works to cover his role.
Sheesh. I never saw Turner dragging his feet. Why even go there? I saw other Mets loafing in that way but not Redbeard.

Hey, wait... They still owe a slam to Hairy!

Most of that "Mets hope not to hire such dicky players' article was more the reporter inferring that some of the mentioned guys were dicks. It didn't seem an official was throwing anybody to the wolves.

And Ronny Paulino was like Valdy --- had a leaguewide rep as a jerk before ever joining the Mets.

Yet another reason why I don't know why anyone ever signs with this fuckin' team.

Here's what I dislike, he's a fucking bench player, by all accounts a good guy, I follow him on various social media BS and he's a huge Mets booster....don't hurt a bench players chances with another org by bad mouthing him.

Because while it strikes us as ungracious --- a wintertime moment of talking out of school by an alleged unnamed executive claiming that a utility guy didn't run to first as hard as he should have is no big whoop.

I mean, I can think of 60 million reasons Granderson signed with the Mets. If his buddy told him, "The Mets? You see what they said about Turner? That he didn't run hard?" I imagine he'd reply, "Well, I don't do that."

He's the only one who busted out with any effort here.

OK, Mr. Wright too. But you would expect that. Everyone else looked like they were in a hostage video.

A classless move to badmouth Justin, who tried hard to be a good soldier when called upon.

I have a vague memory of Justin getting thrown out at 2nd on what should have been a double but I could have been drinking heavily at that point and have the facts all screwed up. Other than that I don't have any particular memories of Turner loafing out of the box although maybe he did and I just missed it/them.
But if he was given to 'Cano-ing' it down the line I don't have a problem with someone in NYM mgmt saying so. If you're a player and don't want to get criticized for not hustling then here's what you do: Hustle.

The interesting thing this season will be to see during Yanx/Mariners games if the MFY announcers notice/mention Cano's constant case of lead feet on grounders ... cuz they sure didn't notice them up until now.

While I wasn't a huge fan of Turner's I never saw him dogging it intentionally. Played every infield position without embarrassing himself. Didn't hit much, but wasn't Tejadaesque either.

I'm guessing he'll go to the Braves, kick our ass with a late-inning pinch hit, then sneak up into the owner's box and hit Jeff Wilpon with a shaving cream pie. In which case, it would be worth it.
