Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 He's old. He's fat. And his representatives are talking with the representatives the New York Mets!Tracksuit is dubous.Andy Martino @MartinoNYDNI am told Mets likely not serious players for Bartolo Colon. Too pricey.Tracky doesn't run the world, though. (What a break it would be for Adidas if he did, though!) Can anybody explain how he was so good at 40 years old last year and how much that made him worth? Uh... two years and $23 million? Doesn't sound like something he'd go for but I'm shy about going higher, even if I have the munny.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 A two-year contract to a 41-year-old pitcher? Pretty scary, unless it's incentive laden.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Per Rubin:Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland Athletics last season.I had no idea that he did that. Still, depending on pitchers over 40 to produce similar results again is tough to do.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 There's always Rob Ford as a go-to-guy for a fat joke.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Well, that's just a number I threw out there, being as close to what I was imagining he might be asking for as I was willing to go. Add your own offers.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 On WCBS radio, I heard "Mets (static) Bartolo Colon (static)"Did they sign him?Later
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 They met him. Florida is only so big, though; I'd imagine it's hard to walk around a Disney resort occupied by Bartolo Colon and NOT run into him at some point.Per Rubin:Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland Athletics last season.I had no idea that he did that. Still, depending on pitchers over 40 to produce similar results again is tough to do.He's started at least 24 games each of the last three years, and put up a ERA+ of 123 since age 35.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Burkhardt live from the meetings on SNY yesterday at 7pm with Martino and Jim Duke...with the money will command no on Bartolo....more likely Santana will be back with an incentive laden contract.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 It would be a curious move. Whatever the upside, he would almost certainly be another guy they wouldn't ask 32 starts from. Maybe you bring him along slowly --- start his season in mid-May, so he's (hopefully) fresh at the end when they're shutting Mejia/Montero/Syndergaard down.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 The Mets and Colon apparently could be close to a two year deal......Murti
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 And here I am, the only one with the stones to put a dollar sign on the muscle.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Murti pulls back his original tweet claiming a two year deal had been agreed to now saying they are still talking.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Madden says done deal? Wow.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 would not have expected this would be considered good use of rare $$.I'd have guessed maybe they'd squeeze Livan hernandezish year out of him but that's on a bargain.I guess I need to respect his success.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 HAH! Looks like I overbid.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Two years is definitely risky at Colon's age, but he has ace upside and more lives than a cat.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Can't wait for the poll on this!

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 But, well, he doesn't have to produce similar results. Good ones will do.
