Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Oops... not actually on the roster anymore is Hansel Robles. Was exposed to (and cleared) waivers when they signed Chris Young. That's five open slots on the roster. Really bracing for a flurry of moves come the winter meetings (if not sooner).
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Seriously. He's gonna trade the shit out this team.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I think so too. But for the moment, anyway, Tovar does have an opportunity in front of him. All he has to do is have a better spring than Ruben Tejada (who likes to show up late, fat, and lazy)* and he's a starting major league shortstop.* Yes, I know I'm exaggerating. What's Ruben gonna do about it? File a grievance?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Lots of craziness and fun-ness transpiring at the winter meetings, unless your name is deGrom or Lagares. Life got a little more complicated for those two. For Brown, too, but he has the advantage of being out of options, so Lagares skates to the side for a bit while the Mets attempting to sort out the Davis-Duda conflict.Velasquez is a curious little bit of pilfery, as the Mets gobble him up a cold week after he got signed by Minnesota after a few years in the purgatory of indy ball. One can perhaps the Mets were scouting him there and were miffed at beaten to the draw by Minnesota and took note when they didn't add him to their AAA roster. Mets get the player, while Minnesota eats any signing bonus they might have given the guy.Hope the team ordered a whole bunch of small-cap D's for their jerseys because the clubhouse is going to be crazy with them, with a D', a DE, and a DEN all at once.
Mex17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I think that den Dekker and Lagares would make the 25-man ahead of Duda and Brown if the season started today

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Mex17 wrote:I think that den Dekker and Lagares would make the 25-man ahead of Duda and Brown if the season started todaywhy? the value of Lagares and dDekker is the same... defensive CFer, without much of a bat. But Granderson and Young are going to play everyday, and EY most days, and they can all play CF (to a greater or lesser degree), so the Mets are better served having guys on the bench who can give you some pop as late-inning PHers from either side. Plus, Lagares and dDekker have options; Brown doesn't, and he's played some CF too As for Duda, he'll probably end up at 1B with Ike being moved, so that will make room for a LHed bat for the bench, but neither Lagares and dDekker can give you that. I think there is no way dDekker makes the opening day roster and the only way Lagares does is if Murphy is traded and they think EY can play 2b everyday, or if they decide EY is just a utility player and start Lagares in CF.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 so with 37 guys on the 40-man roster (including Harvey, who'll be on the 60-day IR and so i think can be taken off the 40 for next season), what is Sandy looking for to fill out the roster? Or does he leave spots open for in-season moves?I think he'd like to sign one more vet SPer and one more vet reliever, and probably a SS if he can find one better than Tejada.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 you missed the re-signing of Jeremy Hefner. No longer a free agent, nor on the 40 man, so he'll get well acquainted with PSL doing Tommy John rehab. Perhaps SNY can get a zany weekly show going, Jeremy and Matt's crazy Port St. Lucie adventures! It can be romantic comedy even. Matt bangs every super model in Florida while Jeremy (and wife Sarah) sadly shake their heads and repeatedly try to set him up with one of Sarah's friends. After Matt agrees and does his usual pump and dump routine, he realizes that perhaps she really is the woman for him, and embarks on a quest to win her heart. Just as he's about to do so, he meets old flame Anna V and they spend a night together that Sarah's friend is heartbroken and breaks off contact. Matt then gets called up for a "prove you're healthy" start in late September, and after no-hitting the Phillies for 5 innings and getting pulled because of a pitch count, she's waiting for him in the tunnel to forgive him. Cut to the late November wedding on the Pitcher's Mound at Citi Field. The End.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 If they re-signed Hefner to a minor league contract, who pays his medical bills if he's no longer covered by the MLP Health plan? Is there a minor league player medical plan? Will the team do it in good faith because they expect him to be a productive pitcher for them again?Later
