Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 The one on the left is definitely Pelfrey.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Beltran with the tuba, I think.I like that artwork. It's too bad the Mets shrunk from that Philly rivalry. Their fans will talk about beating us at the tape for the rest of their fan-lives.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I thought it was Wright with the tuba. That series was awful --- culturally anyhow. The News seemed to want the rivalry so bad that they even ran a couple of articles encouraging fans to be dicks, and dispatched some gonzo to show us how it's done, provocatively acting like a dick in order to capture the experience for those of us who didn't have the time or scratch to head down to Philly to get drunk and beat up.It's a winning tabloid formula. Provoke violence. Make violence you incited your lead story. Sell papers. Cash checks.Still, for a brief moment in time, Mike Pelfrey was in ascendance to the point where folks were comfortable and excited even to have their hopes resting on his shoulders with first place on the line. Were we ever so young?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Yup (Wright) and yup. It was standard Snooze practice at the time to assign their metro reporters to write idiotic articles about how the rival city is lame.It was something St. Louis would do.

I did some research a while back and the Game Score that Halladay put up in the middle game of that series was the "best" performance by a pitcher opposing the Mets that I've ever seen in person. batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 It is Wright. When I first posted that back page three years ago, there was also confusion over the identity of the 2d Met.That was three weeks before Dickey was brought up.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 David Wright's life is a movieNot really, but that was Joe Girardi's quote which got replayed often after Jeter hit a HR in NOT his first AB following a long lay-off. Jeet's HR (the only one he'd hit this year) was in his first AB in his second comeback of this season after he had missed just a week.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Wrights up again. *sits up*

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Ha. That was just a load of horseshit from Matthews. They might be good, and we knew that, but we never were afraid of them.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Taking advantage of every opportunity. This is strange.
