Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Daisuke Matsuzaka returns after an inauspicious beginning to his first start, though he settled down nicely later. We'll see who the real Daisuke is.Mets bringing in Daisuke for an attempt at career rejuvenation/redemption reminds me of Ol' Bill Metsiac, who dearly wanted a private audience with Steve Phillips, to convince him of the wisdom of bringing back Hidecki Irabu, at a point that seemed like years after Irabu had retired to the links or a lawn chair or wherever.I also guess the name "Matsuzaka" shares a common root with "Matsui."
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 And from out of the hat Manager Collins will use to choose his lineups for the rest of 2013...Eric Young, Jr. LFJuan Lagares CFAndrew Brown RFIke Davis 1BJosh Satin 3BWilmer Flores 2BJustin Turner SSTravis dArnaud CDaisuke Matsuzaka - RHP
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Nice throw by d' on the steal of second. Phils heads say Flores (who they call Murphy) screwed up by not hanging at the bag. He was not in a good position there, he passed the bag, this is true. Still a very nice and powerful throw by d'. He put a lil extra ooomph on that. lil bit.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 That's why folks call the Phils crew the best in the biz*!*Note: Nobody calls them the best in the biz, mothers inclusive
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Lagares really ripped that. A line double to the leftfield wall in the first.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 That's why folks call the Phils crew the best in the biz*!*Note: Nobody calls them the best in the biz, mothers inclusiveI used to like them a lot. Especially when Harry was still around. Even after they were very smart and informative and weren't brown noses. Fortunately they didn't have to be cuz the Phils got real good. But these days they do seem a lil browny and a lil whiney. lil bit. Don't think they ever were the best but they are up there in my book. The one guy, McCarthy I think, is to the Phils booth what Gary is to the Mets. He knows his phillishit.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Its strange not to see 'ol Charlie waddling out there. Travis wanted to make another nice throw but Mayberry says NO!, and hits him with his bat. Runner steals but is returned to first. Now bases philled, 1 out, Matz to Hamels.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Turner powers a double to the CF wall with two outs. And he is stranded.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 It's possible the hitters behind him were too shocked to do anything about it.I like Mr. M's change-up. Effective when he's got fastball command, and with an adorable little fillip of a drop at the end.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Don't want to keep digging a hole, Daisuke. That's not naisuke.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Byrd woulda caught that on the fly.ha,i kid.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Great. Angel behind the plate.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 The little clock timing how long Dice-K is taking between pitches is amusing.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Wow, got out of another one. But like eightyhundred pitches in only the fourth. Could he please keep us in the game AND eat up innings?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Not the ideal model of success for ya?Well, he's in the last year of his contract, so letting him throw 140 pitches isn't out of the question. I hear he's done it before.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 And he splits the outfielders like a pro!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Welcome to Matsuzaka-land(the slow pitching I'm talking about, not the hitting)
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Hmm. We just lost three pitchers in the span of a few weeks. We need a guy who can eat up innings and pitch deep into games. I know, get me Matsuzaka!

Swaps places with EY and Young ripsoff a base.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Great Justin Turner stat. Out of 446 qualifiers (at least 75 AB):Major League Leaders, Runs (min 75 AB)1. Matt Carpenter STL 1002. Miguel Cabrera DET 95446. Justin Turner 4
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Nice. Heads up tag by Young and then Ike singles him in.1-0

Guest Kong76 Guests Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Someone float a tweet that The Donald is interested in buying the Mets and let's see if goes viral!

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I missed the play where Rollins was out at third. Good play by Young? Oh shit, that tied it. And we already got our one run for the night.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Yes - it was a good throw that got Rollins at third.
