Gary Cohen will be doing the first two games of the Reds-Giants series on ESPN Radio, Saturday night and Sunday TBD. He'll partner with Rick Sutcliffe before being shoved aside so Chris Berman can bigfoot his way back in and pretend he's a baseball announcer.

I don't get into announcer bashing nearly as much as other Met/baseball/sports-in-general fans seem to, but the two I'd vote to NOT hear do a baseball game currently working are Rick Sutcliffe (color) and Chris Berman (p-b-p)
Poor Gary. Being good only gets you so far in this business.

I hope Sutcliffe is drinking.....cheap joke, sorry.

Seriously, I can't go him at all, one, he speaks way to low.....which I guess is fine as I don't want to hear him....

Is it wrong that I get possessive of Gary? I don't want anyone else to hear him because I want him doing Mets games forever. I don't want, say, some Cleveland radio station to say "this guy's amazing; give him whatever he wants to come here."

Indeed. It also sucks when guys miss games for other jobs. Jim Duquette is not horrible, but after just one season I feel that losing Josh Lewin to football even a few weekends a year is too many. This was especially noticeable as the absence of channel 11 had me listening to the Mets while watching football on mute a couple of Sundays.

Fortunately, Howie is rarely called upon to extend his Islanders gig into the playoffs.

ouch.

Of course, Islanders fans say the same thing about his Mets gig into October..

I like an occasional dose of Duquette to keep Rose and Lewin honest.

Pretty high-larious that Howie missed the no-hitter.

I used to feel that way about Lindsey Nelson doing Notre Dame games.

i remember listening to Fran Healy and feeling similarly... except, you know, the exact opposite. "Cleveland! Come and get this goober off our hands!"

One of my memories after the no hitter was Gary telling Keith and Ron that he couldn't wait to hear Howie's call.

Not exactly the same, but I always waited for Lindsey to cut the charade and starting talking Mets baseball. To a lesser extent, I wanted Murph to change the subject to the Mets during Bowling For Dollars. But, really, it's not like there was a subject during Bowling For Dolalrs.

Every once in a while I'm flipping channels in the car and catch Gary doing whatever college bball team he does (Seton Hall?). I briefly get a surge of excitement, then curse and continue flipping channels.
