Apparently he's been pitching with a torn abdominal muscle...since April 13.

Surgery is scheduled for October 18.

Pitching with one ab tied behind his back...or something like that...he wins 20 games and contends strongly for the Cy Young.

Really Amazin'.

irish calls Kilimanjaro a hill. Hard. Core.

That'll be three fifths of our rotation coming off surgery or disability at the start of 2013, making for a lot of work in Ray Ramirez's office. Niese and Harvey apparently escaped the season whole, but they still have the offseason to get themselves banged up. Good luck, boys!

i.e. possibility of a Mets option-laden extension much more affordable.

Just be thankful MLB doesn't care about Toradil or whatever that drugs called.

y'know, it just occurred to me, that despite the injury, ra fielded his position rather well all season long, in addition of course to pitching himself right to the top of the cy young discussion.

This really answers a question we had 2 months ago. "Why does a team that clearly needs to be in rebuilding mode with a 38 year old asset signed to a reasonable contract not trade him at the deadline?" And now we know.

Not to mention that reverse-spin pick-off move to 2nd he does on occasion.
Heck, that's probably how he tore it!
