Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 They all got MVP support --- multiple-time top-ten MVP finishers or something like that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Checking and... nope. Orel only finished once in the top ten and Nomo not at all.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 I'm looking for an answer here, godamnit, not a theory of categories.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 all were dodgers once. well, four of them, right? or am i thinking of the wrong mike marshall
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 My answer was Met pitchers who were during their careers two-time top-ten MVP finishers. My answer was wrong.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 metsmarathon wrote:all were dodgers once. well, four of them, right? or am i thinking of the wrong mike marshallBoth MM's were Dodgers. But that's the wrong answer, still.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Jones and Hershiser have first names that come up in Fman's conversation on a regular basis.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 The answer to this question is not so obvious. I'm just sayin'.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Until you added Spahn, I was thinking pitchers who were acquired twice by the Mets.Later
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 you say Santana didn't accomplish it. could he?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Ceetar wrote:you say Santana didn't accomplish it. could he?Sounds like you're asking for a hint. Your wish is my command. It's now mathematically, scientifically and logically impossible for Johan to accomplish what Jones, Spahn, et. al. once did. But Santana could have, at one point in his career.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 I'll try and post the answer in the next hour or so.

Is it something accomplished as a Met, or is the fact that they were Mets irrelevant except to the point of grouping them for this trivia?

That's why Johan can no longer do it.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 hit a home run against the mets before pitching for the mets...?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 metsmarathon wrote:hit a home run against the mets before pitching for the mets...?Verry interrresting, but .... no.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Pitched in relief against the Mets?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 All were featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in their pre-Mets days.
Met Hunter Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 There was an SI called something like "the best rookies of 1968" that had a few players including Mike Torrez on the cover.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 On the cover before becoming a Met in 1983.What?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Not pictured: Braves, No. 47, muttering, Get off me! Get off me! I'm choking! And I plan to make a long-term habit of it after I'm gone from here!"
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 I was going for pitchers featured exclusively on the cover. I should've phrased better. Besides, Koosman should be in Torres's seat.Seaver's a stretch. If he's in, then it's still theoretically possible for Johan to one day make this list. And if Seaver's in, so's Coney.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Since that one got answered, I have another one.I read that Tom Seaver hit a home run against the Mets after he got traded away. Who was the pitcher he hit it off? (I don't know the answer)Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I know that Seaver doubled off Koosman in his very first game at Shea following the trade, but I don't know the answer to the HR question.
Met Hunter Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I remember. Pretty sure it was Swannie.
