IGT 7/7/2012 CHI @ NYM: Mr. Gee's Steamy Forecast is Next

They may have lost, but the Mets can't feel too bad after nearly pulling out last night's game and getting deep into the head of Carlos Marmol.

Dillon Gee takes the mound against designated pinata Jeff Samardzija, who surrendered 9 earned in 4.1 against these Metsies just ten days ago. The game-time forecast is 96 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms, but the real thunder will come from the bats of Wright, Duda, Davis, Murphy and their pinstriped pals. LGM!

Perfect throw by Thole erases Castro trying to steal second after a 1st inning single. Nice throw Josh.

More farmboys than a Children of the Corn remake. An all home-grown lineup for the fourth time in Mets history.

I myself would like to see how a uni jersey would look with the "Metropolitans" all spelled out. I might have to make me one.
If you're not getting the SNY feed they were talking jerseys. Keith does not like that road Cub jersey they have on.

I always thought the team name was Metropolitans and they just shortened it to Mets for convenience. Gary says that the team was never called the Metropolitans and that that was just the name of the company that founded the team. I knew that too (The New York Metropolitan Baseball Club), but I did think that Metropolitans was the teams full name. Very interesting. Ty Gary.

Rizzo is lucky that I only can have one nemesis per season. K, we can't allow any more runs this inning Mr Gee.

Are nuptials in the plans?

Hey, it's legal now.

Tejada gets at least half that save.

Enjoyable game on many levels. Listened to the first four innings on the deck called by Howie and Josh and the rest on SNY with GKR.

The Tejada catch was tremendous.

Lots of random tidbits on tonight's game. I enjoyed the part where Keith was talking about the ways he had Strawberry feed him location from the on-deck circle. Also Keith raved about the way Ike was playing the bunt and rushing in and pretty much psyched the pitcher into pulling back and taking a strike.

Fun day. Some thoughts:

1) If you favor adult beverages with your baseball, and it's a day game, and the temperature is above 95 degrees, your ONLY option for optimal refreshment is one of the frozen/iced fruity things from the stand in the RF Field Level corner. A pregame slushy-with-premium-tequila cures virtually all ills.
2) Gee appears to have eschewed "Nuthin' But a G Thang" as his pregame warm-up music, which is more than a little disappointing.
3) We were in Section 436. Citi was a hazy sweatbox; between the breezeless heat and the mango frozen margarita, the first six innings-- the home runs and the nifty 2-6-3 DP notwithstanding-- passed by like a lazy river, dozy and unmemorable.
4) Attended with my cousin (and her husband), for whom this was a first game "since Jose." (A more casual fan than me, but still an ardent one, she had considered him her "Met boyfriend.") She left a BIG Ruben convert.
5) Witnessed a whole lot of casual Bat Day fanny-whackings. It's probably best they saved the Free Nightsticks promotion for when the Philly contingent wasn't in town.
6) The Cubs fans in/around our section lovedlovedLOVED the Rizzo. Understandably. And vocally. And repeatedly. Enough already; you're down two runs and 20 games under .500 and your girlfriend's meatier than a Polish barbecue and your face is even fatter.
7) GUESS-WHO'S-STAYING-AT-THE-HOTEL GOSSIP (Sponsored by BetterHalfer): Darwin Barney is "a peach" and "reminds me of [LWFS], but thinner" (HEY). Alfonso Soriano does not speak a lick of English (or doesn't care to). He also made a vague, mysterious request for "VIP" treatment in his room, and got indignant when the manager on duty asked him for a clarification.
8) INSTANT REACTION: Tejada's ninth-inning catch was one of the top 3 defensive plays I've witnessed in person.

My train of thought upon reading this:

"Hmm, what big defensive plays have I witnessed?"

"Endy."

"fuck."
