On the bright side Elvin Ramirez throws very very hard and may he be able to command it.On the other side Tejada did pull himself from the Buffalo game as he felt quariceps tightness and was afraid to run.http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/47712/bay-returning-tejada-off-rehabJason Bay returns to the team tonight with Canadian cheer and a booming bat...

I guess you can blame drafting him but he tore it up last year in the minors, they added him to the 40 man, and now he's expendable? Feels like they should've just taken the chance no one would take him rule-5 and leave him off the roster.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 C. Young's wife had a baby today... don't hand the baby to Valdespin!

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Why take him off the roster in November when you needed him in June?

What did he get, one AB? Isn't it entirely possible he was promoted because he was on the 40man and that if he was never put on it, they'd have added someone else?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I have trouble with the concept that Satin was important enough to get a key AB in last night's game and yet be insignificant enough to be discarded the day after.

Of course they would add "someone else." You want to say you knew who in November?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) Bay is active but not that active... he isn't in the starting lineup. Edited June 6, 2012 by Guest

If he's just disposable depth anyway, why ever add him to the 40 man? Why bring him up after the Mets were eliminated last year. Save the 40 man spot. He's DFA'd now anyway, if someone wants him, he's gone. If someone wanted him this offseason, they would've had to keep him on the major league roster or give him back, so if you don't think he's a full time player anyway, chances are you'll get him back if someone does claim him. Now someone can claim him and he can be that AAAA guy for them, as long as they have the roster flexibility the Mets don't.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I guess Shorty didn't see what I saw last night: Davey using any one of his FOUR lefties to plow through Murphy, Davis and Thole.

It just doesn't seem to make sense to me, if you're going to cut him this fast. If this is all you thought his upside was, why not keep F-Mart instead?

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Probably. But in a way they removed F-Mart to make/keep room for Satin. Martinez was always the better prospect. I'm just trying to get a handle on the roster management. It seems sloppy.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Martinez was always the better whatever. Their opinion was that Satin had more value to them going forward. I disagreed. You apparently did too. But until Martinez starts putting points on the scoreboard at the big league level, it's still an open question.

Might be an insurmountable lead.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Silliness. People get DFA'd all the time. (Maybe Martinez does next.) Buying an insurance policy wasn't foolish because your house didn't burn down.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 This isn't really about Martinez though. It's about the chance they actually gave Satin. Why is he an expendable 40th man? And if he's not going to stick in the majors, why did you add him to the 40 man roster to begin with? Or is it just the two months of minor league ball have decided them?
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Also, Satin was playing first base almost exclusively (and not hitting for any power) in Buffalo. DFAing one of your 40man 1B options probably says something about the immanency of demoting Ike.
