In a lineup with no hitters, and with first base open, why are they even pitching to McCutcheon?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Not sure I want to be putting the tying run on base (and a speedy one at that) so early-(ish) in the game.

If nothing else, the games during this series in Pittsburgh have been moving right along.
Right now: bottom 7th -- Boston at Baltimore same starting time and same number of runs scored (2-2): Top 5th

Now watch Terry use 5 pitchers to get the next 6 outs.

It is most decidedly so...

Again no double-switch w/Duda even though he made the last out ... and again a fly-ball single falls in despite seeming to be in the air a long time.
Mabye Torres in CF moving Nieuey to RF makes a difference but maybe not.
Still ...

Niese walks Hernandez and now it'll be Parnell to face McCutcheon w/2-out and 2-on

well best reliever in arguably the highest leverage situation. so..

Walking Gorky there is pretty unforgiveable, but the bullpen stinks and part of me thinks "lock the door and let Niese go"

Is it a character-building thing? Terry doesn't want to get Duda down on himself by switching him out like gimpy veteran? Because these seem like obvious moves.

And if Torres has lost his job --- at least for now --- as starting centerfielder, there isn't much of a role for him if you don't use him as a defensive sub.

Now that its' done..What happened to Clint Hurdle? He is 53 going on 80..Anyone else catch that?

worst offense in either league might do that to you.

Clint, by his own admission, had some rough miles on those early years.

I would have left Parnell in also, but now that's six straight outs for Frank-Frank w/5 of them Ks so that's not too bad either.

If not switching out Duda is a confidence thing he probably would have skipped it altogether. It just made more sense to do it an inning earlier.

I got to listen to a few outs here and there before it got real busy at the workplace. I did catch the radio call of the Duda RBI in the first as well as Wright's later on, so that was a plus.
