SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, APRIL 2012

The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for April 2012 is DAVID WRIGHT. This is the eleventh time David has been Player of the Month, but it's the first time since June of 2010. Nobody has won more Schaefer Mets Player of the Month awards. David batted .395 in April, with an OBP of .495 and a slugging percentage of .566. He led the Mets in the following categories: Hits (30), Runs (15), RBI (14), Walks (16), Intentional Walks (5), and Stolen Bases (2). Wright's 18.62 points put him almost 4 points ahead of the runner up, rookie Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for April is R. A. DICKEY. This is the sixth time that Dickey has been the top Schaefer pitcher, and, having won the title the last three months of 2011, he has now won four months in a row. (The only other Mets pitcher to win in four consecutive months was Pedro Martinez in April, May, June, and July of 2005.) R.A. was 3-1 in April with a 4.45 ERA. his 30.1 innings over five starts led the club, and he his strikeout total of 28 was one behind Johan Santana. When he took the mound in Houston on April 30, Dickey trailed Santana in the Schaefer voting, but his final performance of the month yielded him enough Schaefer points to put him over the top by a margin of 1.04 points.

And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a first-time winner, JON RAUCH. Rauch led the Mets in April with 13 games pitched and had a 2.31 ERA over 11.2 innings and a 3-0 record. Rauch finished ahead of Bobby Parnell, who had the same 2.53 ERA in the same 10.2 innings, but had three fewer wins than Rauch, but 15 strikeouts to Rauch's 4. Parnell also allowed 12 hits while Rauch only allowed 5.

Honestly, I don't think I could pick him out of a lineup, and he was last in Flushing when? 2 years ago?

Congrats to Wright and Wrauch.

I thought Dickey was a cinch for the Schaefer Book Signer of the Month and Schaefer Red Carpet Movie Premiere Pitcher of the Month, but surprised he took the starter honors.

(oh, I see, 1 more start than all but Santana)

Great cards, Grimm. You're the tops!

At last week's Hofstra Mets 50th, I attended a seminar on the economics of the Mets and Yankees. The presenter's powerpoint presentation included an image of a Johan Santana 1970 style Topps card that, I believe, came from the CPF Schaefer awards.

Got to be.

If not for that Atlanta start, eh, Johan?

Jon Rauch 1972 (not to be confused with Bob Rauch 1972...who reliable sources inform me never got a card) looks he folds out.

Dickey's wearing the 2012 uni. Wright, as ever unwilling to leave anybody out, dons the old drop shadows.

Cards, as ever, are pure joy, BG.
