Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Andres Torres has the only Met run of the season and he cashed it in on the way to what looks like the disabled list. Our number five hitter looked a little frozen in the headlights on his lone at-bat. And they're going to need him all the more now.OE: Look at all those letters!
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 That's a lot of lengthy surnames.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I suggested in the game thread they look at Justin Maxwell. He just got released by the MFYs because he couldn't beat out Andruw Jones for a job. He has some CF and division experience, 28 years old and a former high-ish draft pick, bats righty.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 That's some good outside-the-box thinking, boy. Check "Other," if you will.A righthanded guy, though, only doubles down on the pressure on Baxter. Not having your discerning eye for the waiver wire, I'm checking the Valdespin box. He's my adoptee, he's versatile, he could use the emotional boost of a brief callup, he can pinch-run, and he probably would've gotten his hacks in during that at-bat.Loewen would seem to be the guy you're going for if you want more extra-basiness. I think versatility, aggressiveness, and contact could be more of an asset at this time.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I don;t know who Matt Tuiasosopo is, but his name tells me there's an outside chance he could be related to The Rock.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 According to Rubin, Torres has told him directly that he's heading to the List.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Am on #TeamMaxwell myself. Failing that, gimme all your Loewen... all your hair and whiffin' too.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Fuck it. Call up the football player.

Guest vtmet Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Capt Kirk is the only choice that has experience playing Centerfield, appears ready to hit MLB pitching, and is already on the 40 man roster...IMO, any other move would be a bigger risk...gives Kirk a chance to get a short taste for the MLB experience & it wouldn't risk losing another guy off of the 40 man roster (we've already lost Stinson when he was removed from the 40 man roster)...
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Cubs are trying to move Marking Byrd. Interested?

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 For the minimum or, say, Schwinden? Sure. While I understand the appeal of controllable arms, I've never really understood the appeal of Schwinden in particular...least of all, Schwinden instead of ANOTHER cheap asset.Tuiasasopo, people? Really?

I'm really not sure what the best answer is right now.Kirk hasn't quite been back from his oblique long enough. I'd be skeptical even if he was alrady a major leaguer, but to rush him into real games might be a tad hasty. But, he's playing tonight right for Buffalo?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Maxwell was so far off my radar I had to go look him up.Very thin ML resume where he hasn't played since briefly in 2010.Minor league numbers don't look so bad but, of course, that's the minor leagues.Maybe they should into picking him up but that doesn't mean you throw him into the NY lineup right away. Baxter was Terry's only LF bat off the bench today and that will be the case on most days unless Turner is starting for Murphy or something goofy like that. That all points to Loewen as the likely beneficiary of the Torres injury unless they really want a 'true' CF out there instead of Hairston and think Dekker and/or Nieuwenhuis are ready to handle a month or more on a more or less everyday basis.I think it'll be Loewen.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Maxwell had a torn labrim and missed most of last year I was only aware of him because he was getting his name in the paper for having a good spring for the mfys. Byrd males something like 6 mills.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Maxwell, IIRC (and that ain't no sure thing, granted), looked more than half-decent in center for the Nats; what scant defensive stat evidence there is seems to indicate that he's solid-to-good there and in RF. He's also got isolated-power numbers in the low .200s, nice speed, and though he strikes out a LOT (30% of the time), he also walks far more than virtually all of our other candidates.Loewen has nothing but one strong AAA season... in the stat-inflated PCL; he also doesn't appear to have quite the same baserunning ability that Maxwell does, and is much iffier in the glove department. I want to see more from him, and a solid month more of healthy, improving performance from Kirk, before I bring either of them to Flushing.I'm not saying Maxwell's a starter-- I'm saying he's a really interesting cheap bench/spot-start/defensive-replacement option with pop, a strong record against lefties, and-- at 28-- more than a puncher's chance of post-hype-prospect-y mild improvement.

I don't really have a horse in this race.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 I'm just tickled that there's 15 folks voting in this poll. Let's face it, the CPF has been deader than Albany on a Tuesday night.I think Valdespin has shown as much readiness for the bigs. I'd like to see Nieuwenhuis get some work at AAA. He was only healthy enough to get into 53 games last year.
