Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 Well, Duan, that's because you're a world-class badass.Yeah, I know head wounds look far worse than they are. But sharply struck liners come at you a lot faster than an opponent's head on the football pitch. And the eye is the eye. The bad hop at third is a scary prospect and has ended more than one career. Bobby Valentine got his nose squished by one, and came out of it with a new-found appreciation for artificial turf.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I think the real "fall out" from the bad hop is it sets off more speculation about whether he can play the position.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 Ozzie Smith on his best day was not going to snag that.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Amusing news out of Mets camp apparently, with Torres' sore/strained/missing calf, Jason Bay and ...Jordanny Valdespin! have been pegged to get reps in CF. It's about to get crazy? If only we had Juan Pierre.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 I think Pierre looks to get a lot of time in left for Philly with Mayberry at first. Good.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I guess this will lend credence to the "Should've signed Ankiel" crowd. I imagine if Torres actually can't go beyond say this weekend they'll probably have to look to grab someone else from somewhere.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I keep looking at Torres, and seeing Torres, and looking at Pagan, and seeing Pagan, and I keep thinking, "Man, Ramirez better throw real good."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 I don't know. We usually get shit from fans because the Met bench is full of MLB retreads. This year, there's more room for young comers to come. Few Jay Bells and Frank Catalanottos in the way. Yeah, that means fewer potential comebackers like Marlon Andersons or Fernando Tatis or Desi Relaford. Still and all, I like the gamble of taking a good look at Rick Ankiel, Jr. in Loewen. Cheaper, younger, not as entitled, easier to get out of the way if a Newey or a Dekker comes fast, and --- if you trust your staff --- just as likely to succeed.Longer-term payoff if he does, too.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 If Torres really is out for the long haul, I'd expect Nuiewy gets the first crack. We could really use Shinjo to platoon with 'em tho.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 I don't think long-haul (Torres says as much), but I also don't think it's the last we hear of it.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Has Nieuwenhuis played again yet? He had bee ndealing with an oblique too right? You hear less about these guys once they're sent to the minors camp.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 I asked Jordany if he could play center and he said yes. This kid is athletic as heck.I think Torres is probably not down for long, but Collins has to line up all his angles at this point. The Seemingly Used Up but Still Unsigned List:Johnny DamonMilton BradleyJ.D. Drew.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Still a chance Hairston makes it back in time too, could probably hold down CF for 4-5 games if Torres needs a couple days.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I just witnessed my first Shinjo reference for 2012. Bullet of cool.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Mets aiming for the weekend to get Wright on the field.Which weekend is up in the air.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Too bad the Mets didn't sign Ankiel when he was available.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Maybe, but I'm not on the Ankiel tip here. He's just a guy. There are other guys.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Not enamored with Ankiel sporting these numbershttp://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/ankieri01.shtml
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Ankiel may still be available by OD, by virtue of sucking and getting released.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 yeah, i don't get the point of pining over a guy with a career 93 OPS+.

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 well, him, too... though Torres' peak performance (both in prior years and projecting forward) is higher than Ankiel's. Still, replacing Torres with a combo of Loewen, Hairston, Capt Kirk or even Valdespin won't make an appreciable difference in the Mets season.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 apparently Joba Chamberlain was jumping up and down on a trampoline with his son..and dislocated his ankle.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 You should see the trampoline!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Surgery for Joba. Could be gone for the season. Can you imagine?
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 is it wrong for me to have laughed out loud at this news?i'm a bad person.but, not surprisingly, i'm ok with that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Beato: back to throwing the old bullpen yesterday.Carrasco: back to throwing the slightly older bullpen yesterday.

Tom Seaver would never go on a trampoline. That said I'm sort of struck by how humiliating it would be to screw your whole career up in front of your son.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 It's the Hideki Irabu coming out in Joba. He just can't help himself.I am smiling.
