I'm afraid that when I look at the back of his jersey it will conjure up memories of Jay Satan.

There he is. Would have been even better if it was Josh Satin in 66.

Quintanilla with the axe. Beat writers/tweeters can't even be bothered to figure out how to spell his name for this either.

Hope Q survives. Has contributed more than Rony this season. Valdy maybe should've gone down.

eh, the second Simmons left the game the other day Sandy was probably knocking on their door asking if they wanted Omar in exchange for comping their hotel bill while they were in town.

Sandy said they waited to make this move until after the Braves traded for Janish.

Considering that they've known the Braves were in the market for a SS since a week ago Sunday, that's actually a pretty smart case of waiting them out.

Rubin has a source saying Quintanilla is going to the Orioles for future considerations.

Who says Alderson is afraid to deal? When he can get a nebulous package of ephemera for an asset that's about to expire anyhow, he moves on that shit, baby.

It looks like the rain will probably not cause a postponement, but if it did they would almost certainly play two tomorrow or Sunday.

This year, a team can call up a 26th player for a doubleheader. If they had to play two in one day this weekend, who gets the call?

I believe that only applies to scheduled doubleheaders.

You're right that it wouldn't apply for this weekend, but it isn't limited to scheduled doubleheaders. From mlb.com

In a rule established in the most recent collective bargaining agreement, clubs can have 26 players on the roster for day-night doubleheaders that occur at least two days after the original game is rained out.

well that's scheduled right? just..later. I thought there was some days in advance it had to be on the schedule for, I just couldn't find it in the CBA when I googled. There's a lot of murky rules about timing and travel and exemptions for the Red Sox and Cubs and what not.

Well there essentially are no scheduled DHs in the traditional meaning where you're scheduling them prior to the start of the season.
I suspect that whole two-day window thing was put in as a fail-safe to keep the home team, which controls the fate of a game up until first pitch, from calling off a game prematurely so as to take advantage of the new call-up rule within the same scheduled series because they took a look at how the pitching lined up for the two teams and thought it might be to their advantage.

not this year, no.

It's probably going to be used most of the time to call up that spot starter you needed without juggling.

Future considerations:

If you told me last March that this would be the Mets starting rotation, I'da figgerered that they'd be 20 games out of the Wild Card.

Could you believe that RA's not the Mets oldest starter? Not even close. Miguel's so old that when he was born, Gil Hodges and Nolan Ryan were still Mets.

"Everyone on the roster who's older than R.A. Dickey take one step forward. Not so fast, Miguel."

This leaves Byrdak as the oldest active Met.
