Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 It looks like the rain will probably not cause a postponement, but if it did they would almost certainly play two tomorrow or Sunday. This year, a team can call up a 26th player for a doubleheader. If they had to play two in one day this weekend, who gets the call?

Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 You're right that it wouldn't apply for this weekend, but it isn't limited to scheduled doubleheaders. From mlb.comIn a rule established in the most recent collective bargaining agreement, clubs can have 26 players on the roster for day-night doubleheaders that occur at least two days after the original game is rained out.

I thought there was some days in advance it had to be on the schedule for, I just couldn't find it in the CBA when I googled. There's a lot of murky rules about timing and travel and exemptions for the Red Sox and Cubs and what not.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Well there essentially are no scheduled DHs in the traditional meaning where you're scheduling them prior to the start of the season.I suspect that whole two-day window thing was put in as a fail-safe to keep the home team, which controls the fate of a game up until first pitch, from calling off a game prematurely so as to take advantage of the new call-up rule within the same scheduled series because they took a look at how the pitching lined up for the two teams and thought it might be to their advantage.
