batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Oh and two to Willie Mays Koosman checks the rubber gets the sign from Carter . the new breeders are on their feet their placards held high over on the third base side and in right field their placards are terrific Koosman from the stretch heres the pitch to Mays theres a long drive to deep deep center field off the bat of Mays no ones gonna get this one back goes Mays his back to the infield Mays makes an incredible catch turns and fires it in . What a catch by Willie Mays to rob Willie Mays of a triple perhaps even an inside the park Home Run.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Fires back to Hernandez and first and nails Hernandez for the double play! Keith Hernandez of the Cardinals doubled off first on a GREAT scoop by Keith Hernandez of the Mets! Oh baby, I love it!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 That interview in the stands with Kevin Burkhardt and Salvador Dali was rather surreal.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 What just happened? Lenny Randle was up and the screen just went blank.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Roger Metzger pops to Brogna for the second out. Now all Bruhert has to do is get Musial. That's all.Stan the Man, btw, is the fifteenth batter of the game.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 It's such a perfect day here at the park, Lorn. There's Richard Nixon and Snooki taking the game in together.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 musial fouls the first pitch off to the right behind the dugout. what a catch by that familiar-looking fan - i swear i've seen him at at least ten of the mets' greatest games. and... did he just dash off and left a small black circle in his place? I don't know what to make of it, but i'm sure we'll be talking about it for years.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Bruhert strikes out Musial and this place is rocking! Ralph, did they have strikeouts when you played?"1-1, going to the bottom of the second.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Mike Lupica is going to have an especially cloying article about this game in tomorrow's Daily News.

The way they did in '69 and '73, before Boss Steinbrenner moved the action across the Triborough and everybody followed."That man," Keith Hernandez whispered after taking a drag on his Marlboro light and pulling a long sip of Budweiser from the bucket the cluhouse kids leaves at his locker. "He's the reason we're still in it. The changeup."Jerry Koosman throws a changeup and some things go back to the way they were.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Fran Healy just mentioned that Millan might be the best 2b he's ever seen........Kiner shot him down with " you never saw Roger Hornsby play, which reminds of a story........."
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Hornsby wouldn't go to the movies because he was afraid it would ruin his eyesight. Thanks, Ralph. Hadn't heard that one before...again.Oester not much of a second baseman. Tommy Davis just grounded one right by him for the leadoff runner in the second. Murphy's not gonna be asked to bunt, is he?
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I just don't think Boisclair is going to pan out. He can barely stay out of Mettle's way.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 How the hell did Roger McDowell create a hot foot out of one of the bullpen tomatoes?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Murphy lines it to center. Davis races as best he can to third before Bake McBride can get the ball back in. Good thinking on the Mets' part to play the bottom of the second at the Polo Grounds. Huge center field.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Throneberry pinch-hit. He passed Murphy on the basepaths. Then Pagan passed Throneberry, which was strange, since Angel wasn't even in the game. But all this passing back and forth happened a tick before Davis could score. it's still 1-1 heading to the third. What a game!
