Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Cubs are 63-82 with a run differential of -105No excuse for us not taking this rubber game.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Well, the Cubs will probably try anyway. Plus they have that Garza guy going. H'es got a 2.23 ERA going over his seven starts in August and September.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 A friend of mine has an extra ticket somewhere in the Promenade Club on the first base side, so I'm on my way.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 MLB is preventing the Mets from wearing the first responder hats tonight during the game. Good move Selig! The only reason that the game is on national TV, in prime time, is because of 9/11. You know that Bobby V. will spend a lot of time talking about how his Mets responded. Piazza will show up in the booth tonight, too. And yet, MLB issues this nonsensical order.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I guess wearing the hats might offend some people?, dumb move Selig. Thole tells Rubin the players will talk about defying the ban. Thole is union rep.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Do it, Joshie!(Strange to give the union rep slot to a guy who hasn't cleared his option years.)
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 andrewkeh Andrew Keh Josh Thole said the Mets aren't going wear the caps after all. He said MLB came down very hard on it.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 "@AdamRubinESPN: Josh Thole said players can't wear the hats. Thole said the fines would be high on club. "They sent out a big memo and were adamant.""let's not let this overshadow the game.

Maybe the fines will bankrupt the Wilpons. But I'm really surprised that this is even an issue with this team. The Mets can afford extra caps?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Wear em anyway.Fuck Bud..

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Poor Piazza crying after espn showed a piece on a long island family and what his home run meant to them.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 That report was by Tom Renaldi and it was fantastic.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 The hat decision was made by Joe Torre:DPLennon David Lennon by Buster_ESPNTorre, who made MLB decision, told AP that wanted teams to be "consistent" "Certainly it's not a lack of respect," he said of #mets ruling.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 FU Torre, this is turning into PR disaster for MLB if twitter is anything to go by.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 DKnobler If you want to know why MLB insisted on Mets wearing their own hats, here's the reason:http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11784929&cp=1452359.1452831
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Watching the game about a half-hour delayed (thank you, DVR!) Torre's got too much Yankee in his blood now. But the cap thing is probably a contract thing with New Era.Nice to see Franco and Piazza.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 WEAR THE HATS NOW!!!!
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I'd like to see them wearing the pinstripes, too. But I think they wore the snow whites on that first game back in 01.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Meanwhile city agency caps are all over the sidelines of the Jet game.
