What they're doing (I'm sure) is tweaking Phil Mushnick who has been mocking them (mostly Keith) in his NYPost column recently for calling all bunts drag bunts even those that go down the 3B line in what have traditionally been considered push bunts. I think they're purposely overdoing it just to annoy Mushnick.

I hadn't realized that but thought there was something odd in the way Keith said "That's a great drag bunt, eh Gar?"

Yeah, Gary didn't respond tonight because he was busy with something else, but last night (or the one before) he made some kind of answer which indicated that he's in on the joke.

I was like, why ask Gary?

awesome walkoff!
pagan looked pretty bad through the rest of the game, but redeemed himself.

only downside is izzy gets a win instead of a save.

Just as Gary is saying, "Angel will sometimes hit a home run, but he's not a home run hitter" Pagan ends the game with a homer.

fun game.

I was thinking about Beltran and Keith today. Many want 17 retired, but Beltran has had a better Mets career. If Beltran were to stay to the end of the season he'd actually pass Keith in games played. Difference of course is the ring, but that wasn't due to lack of talent on Beltran's part.

Beltran also inched closer to the milestone he likely won't get as Met. 5 more home runs, 8 more SB.

I'm going to disagree with Mushnick here. I think a drag bunt can go to either side, with the batters intent to make it die halfway down the line. A push but I think of as a harder one where you try and put it between the pitchers mound and the firstbaseman. It's practially a lost art. Taveras was the specialist at it, but Backman could pull it off and Timo did also on occasion.

Super fun in El Promenade more or less behind home plate for the second consecutive night. Thanks to bmfc1 for having the foresight to walk down the block to his local Manufacturers Hanover Trust and pick up the tix for this one.

And I'd like to believe after Carlos hit his home run, he told Angel, "Now it's time for you to be the man of the outfield." Angel takes that stuff seriously.

Part of this is just me paraphrasing here as I don't think that Mushnick is specifically labeling all bunts towards 3B push bunts, only that they're not drag bunts - as in, you don't 'drag' something away from you. That's certainly the way I always thought of a drag bunt: a LHB taking one with him as he starts down the line.

In any case, the only reason I even bring it up is because it's obvious Keith is aware that Mushnick is calling him out on the definition but rather than address it directly Keith is choosing to slyly tweak him about it and he's brought Gary along for the ride.
Most announcers, etc claim to not read the columnists who cover their part of the industry but they always seem to know exactly what's being said about them in said columns. M&MD were famous for that; "I never read Mushnick ... but let me tell you were his Sunday column was totally off base!!!!"

Of course, we'll be glad to provide hilarious narration. ("Oh, they're getting tired. They're gonna need more guys.")

Play-by-play breakdown of the ridiculously long offscreen doings (including YouTube video). (CitiField security looks terrible.)

Same problem they have with just about every other person that works there: they don't pay enough (and/or have good enough supervision) to get employees that care enough to do a good job. It's not the first time a fan has run on the field there, yet they appear for all the world to have no idea what to do if that were to happen.
