We have a void. but not shortage of options to fill it, and it's a good chance for Terry make a statement as it were.

I don't think anything is even close to set for 2012 yet.

It's probably going to start as Parnell, and maybe he holds on to it, but I don't think anythings going to be set in stone as that.

I voted Johan though. that'd be fun. Also, Johan (although this is still a ways off) being the guy replacing him on the roster (as they did in reverse in April) would be much better than Igarashi.

I voted Parnell, but I agree with soupcan.

Well yeah, I doubt Terry's gonna keep a guy there if he struggles just because he called him a 'closer'.

Judging by last Sunday's game, I expect it'll be Niese on days he doesn't pitch.

I'm kind of asking who it's going to be, rather than who we want it to be. (Maybe I should have asked that.)

this year, izzy's shut down righties, while parnell shuts down righties. i'd be ok with using them based on the coming matchups.

i'd be more in favor of using izzy in the 9th, but parnell in the high leverage situations that arise until izzy is traded.

Hmmm, Izzy just as a showcase. Interesting.

What's his entrance music? Something by bauhaus, I assume.

Yeah, the Mets will go with Izzy until he's traded to the Cardinals next week, then Bobby Pee.

But to me, Beato just sorta looks like a closer. He already has a distinct body language to him, made some bold remarks in the papers, already knows how to strike guys out, and gets the grounders.

This. Sandy is smart enough to try and boost Izzy's value and then dump him. Izzy, however, may not help matters by sucking, which he mostly has recently, after a good start.

Obviously, Parnell and Beato have the "stuff", but I'd love Terry to take the initiative to simply match relievers to situations and give the ball to the guy with the best shot in a particular circumstance.

High Leverage situation = best available pitcher.

Of course, i wanted Terry to do that with F-Rod this season, so we could keep a good arm in the pen AND avoid him vesting for 2012. But he's not that bold, and i don't think he'll do the bullpen-by-committee thing now either, despite the chance it could maximize the pen's strengths and minimize its weaknesses, without over-inflating value of 50 IP guys.

Hopefully a few days off gets Izz back on track.

Izzy's been a lucky, lucky boy on the mound this year. Pump up the value, then sell him back to the Cards (I really like the idea of selling the best fans in the country overpriced sentiment, right after giving the Brewers the actual onfield goodstuff).

K-Rod to the Brewers, Izzy to the Cards, Beltran to the Pirates: who do we send to the Reds so that we can have a ringer for all contenders in the NL Central?

Misch, obviously. (For PTbNL [crossout:1qap7nbr]Harry Chiti[/crossout:1qap7nbr] Pat Misch.)

Beato has shown the stuff. But IIRC earlier in the year there were several quotes from members of the organization that they are planning to send him to AAA next year (once the Rule V restriction is ended) to complete his Jedi training as a starter.
Of course, that may have been before Gee came up and the starting staff settled down.

santana's owed more than $50m for 2012/2013 seasons. Think they'll take him? What if we package him with Bay ($35m)? Hell, i'd settle for dumping Carrasco's $1.2m for next season. Every little bit helps the Reyes fund.

I don't recall those quotes. The Mets only got him because his development fell behind schedule due to his failure as a starter. It wasn't until last year in Bowie that he moved to the pen and showed the potential on field that he had been drafted for.

Just occurred to me that we had a non-K-Rod closer for a month and a half last season, Hisanori Takahashi. He had no track record in that role (15 saves in Japan in 2006, otherwise a starter there) and he was perfectly fine.

So will be somebody else.

Showcasing Izzy in front of his potential buyers? Maybe?
