It's a billion degrees here in DC. What's it like in New York?

You want to know what else is hot? The state of the Pirates.

Rained overnight, overcast just over the bridge on Jersey.

I wish they played all holliday games during the day. What's more appropriate than a BBQ with the radio broadcast of the game in the background?

I imagine they've done polls that suggest more people watch the games when they're at night though.

MFYs play at 4 in Oakland, John & Suzyn will keep us company till Howie & Wayne.

The anti-American Phillies in Washington at 1. Win 1 (3?) for the Nation, Nats! (at home against Washington? I've already forgotten.)

New York won six of seven meetings with the Pirates a year ago and has won seven in a row at home in this series. Pittsburgh's last road win in this series was a 7-5 triumph on August 11, 2008.

Mets outfielder Jason Bay will face his former Pirates club for the first time since he was traded to Boston in a three-team trade on July 31, 2008. Bay is the only Rookie of the Year in Pittsburgh history.

Why is the Miami Herald previewing the Mets Pirates series?

The ROY was instituted the year after the remarkable rookiehood of Ralph Kiner. I like to think of Ralphers as an honorary Rookie of the Year. The last great rookie of white man's baseball.

Steve Sax won one that might better have gone to Johnny Ray. You couldn't stop voters from voting for Dodgers in them days.

OK, I'll be the insensitive prick: 3-7 days?

Those are the parameters of the bereavement list, even though it does sound like something the Mets doctors would come up with.

Not exactly the starting nine we envisioned during ST, huh?

Actually, kinda looks like a spring training lineup. A spring training road lineup.

Get used to it. It's a close replica of the future lineup -- give or take Bay for Beltran.

Terry said that they want to give Bay a day off but he's being paid a zillion dollars, Reyes isn't there and he finally hit the ball hard twice in one game so it would be nice if he was playing today.

Parnell replaces Jose on the roster. Of course you add a RP to replace a SS. (Perhaps they wanted an extra RP in case RA has trouble tomorrow night.)

Rubin: Jose Reyes to ESPN's Enrique Rojas he expects to return this series. Reyes is eligible to be activated from the bereavement list on Thursday.

Willie Harris is not the Mets' thirdbaseman of the future. You heard it here first.

A little downtime for Jose may be a good time to pitch some numbers at him and his agent.

I never get these caps, they are always horrible looking, the Pirates hats are worse.

These hats are available for sale--does MLB donate all profits to a military related charity? If not, they should.

In the minority, for sure. But I think they're kinda cool.

And seriously, couldn't she have died yesterday so I could have picked up a replacement for my lineup for the week? I lost last week by eight points because Buster Posey is a wuss who can't keep his leg on straight.
