Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Wishing the running game translated into scores for the Mets like it just did for Philadelphia.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Dale Thayer, wearing Number 46, makes his Mets debut.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 So what are the odds that Thayer gets his own Topps Mets card? The outlook isn't brilliant.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Sounds like a real good crowd on the radio too.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 And look, another two-out RBI !!!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Let's save some criticism for the offense, Hayne and Wowie.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 We got us an old school losing streak brewing.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 1 and 4 since Fred Wilpon opened his fucking mouth.Since the high we felt last Friday, 1 and 6. Three non-pitchers on the team right now are worth a damn and 2 might be gone in two months: Reyes, Beltran and Turner. The other 10 hitters could be waived tomorrow and I wouldn't care. It's fucking torture being a Mets fan. Yet I'll be back tomorrow.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 were there as many Phillies fans at the game as FOX were saying? , from what they were showing it was a lot.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Hard to believe we're getting knocked around by a bunch of fucking Muppets.

I don't know, but it's ridiculously frustrating. These pitchers are good pitchers. their offense is not a good offense. Both days our pitcher outpitched their 'Ace', and we lost. it's damn well insane. the Mets looked like they were clearly a better team than the Phillies for roughly 14-15 of those innings. This doesn't feel uncommon either, I feel like a lot of times the Mets are cruising along, come undone in one inning, and it blows the whole game. Why do their errors happen with no one on or with two outs, and ours all happen in the most crucial parts of the game? WHY IS THAT?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Among the errors you can look at was a lefthander like O'Connor letting the tying runner on first jog to second uncontested.Being better for a period is nice, but leads must be padded. You can't count on a bullpen to pitch perfectly with one run leads every time. The bullpen has picked this team up, but you've gotta pick them up by taking the heat off of them also. Going oh-for-15 or so down the stretch was not helpful.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Better teams seem to find a way to win.

If you neutralize that advantage, you should beat them. No one's perfect, Izzy and K-Rod among them, and not building a freaking lead in either game was criminal. Everything seemed to fall apart at the same time from the pitching to the fielding to the throwing. It's just frustrating to watch, from Murphy failing to put his glove down to Tejada rushing to try to get the guy at second instead of planting and throwing to first.

And they're fantastic situational hitters-- both PHs and lineup regulars. (I'd be the first to say "SSS," but it's been that way for the better part of the Manuel era.)

Obviously they're not going scoreless for a month, which is why it sucks that their bad inning(s) coincided with a tight game against a divisional opponent. bad luck, or some 'bad team' philosophy where the pitching and hitting don't line up when you want? Yes, they're good situational hitters, and take the bases when they need them. But we made it easy for them in that regard. 2 outs soft single up the middle for Rollins and we can't get them out? (I would've kept Pelf in, but that's hardly a given or anything) They don't make a ton of errors (although they have been this weekend) but they're not infallible either. We were good defensively for most of this year too, but suddenly we're making errors that they capitalize on and they make errors and we don't. bad timing? small sample size? we hit Oswalt a lot, but a lot of the hits were two outs. 2 two outs hits that don't score a run because they were singles with no one on. Although I would say while I do really like our bullpen, I'm not real sold on the situational parts of it. I kinda wish Collins stopped using it like that.
