Jose Reyes, just shy of his 28th birthday, collected his 1,200th hit, a single, on June 5, 2011, in the first inning, off Tim Hudson of the Braves. It was the 4,515th plate appearance of his career. The Mets won, 6-4.

Ed Kranepool, not quite 31 years and 7 months old, collected his 1,200th hit, a single, on May 20, 1976, in the fourth inning, off Jim Lonborg of the Phillies. It was the 5,103rd plate appearance of his career. The Mets lost, 5-3.

I can't imagine how many guesses I would have needed to get Brian Giles for the Pirates.

The game notes for Mets games still say David Wright needs 6 hits to tie Cleon for second all-time. they should fix that.

Lance Johnson's September 1996 had the kind of finishing kick worthy of his nickname: 45 hits, including 10 doubles and 4 triples. If Reyes wants to catch the One Dog, he'd better be close to 200 by the dawn of September (if he's still here).

John Olerud had 45 hits in August 1998. Jose had 40 in May 2011.
