I'd be mildly surprised if the MFYs don't try and get Pedro.

Why not, they've signed every other aging player with a once-good resume so far this spring.
The addition of Carlos Silva from the Cubs scrap heap added to the likes of Eric Chavez, Andruw Jones, Mark Prior, Kevin Millwood, Bartolo Colon, and Freddie Garcia (not all yet on the ML roster) I think brings the average age of that team to ... deceased.

Heyman tweets that Duaner Sanchez has signed with the Long Island Ducks.

Let's go out and see him.
Its a short cab ride from CitiField.

Chris Woodward recalled by the Blue Jays, and not just in that, "Gee, remember Chris Woodward?" way. He's actually with Toronto again.

Omir Santos back in the bigs with the Tiggs (where all our former backup catchers seem to end up).

Can't claim I ever thought he'd get back.

With the injury to Houston Astros catcher Humberto Quintero, Robinson Cancel gets the call up. When he enters a game, Cancel will become a three decade major leaguer. An unusual feat considering he's appeared in less that 50 MLB games.

Scott Kazmir Likely To Be Released
By Tim Dierkes [June 15, 2011 at 7:53am CST]
"It appears the Angels will have no choice but to release" lefty Scott Kazmir, writes Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times. That would mean eating about $7MM in remaining salary, plus a $2.5MM buyout for 2012.

GM Tony Reagins was on hand to watch Kazmir's fifth rehab start, writes DiGiovanna, and it was the lefty's fourth ugly outing. Kazmir's recovery from back stiffness has been drawn out, as he attempts to regain his old form within the 30-day rehab window. Last year, Kazmir's 5.94 ERA was the worst in the American League among those with 150 innings. Kazmir led the American League in strikeouts in 2007 as a 23-year-old, but his work has gone downhill since.

Kazmir is still only 27, so don't count him out of baseball quite yet. Perhaps another fresh start will lead to him becoming a serviceable starter in time.

As for the August trade with the Rays, the Angels sent Sean Rodriguez, Alex Torres, and Matt Sweeney to Tampa Bay. Torres could be the gem of the deal, as he was ranked sixth among Rays prospects by Baseball America prior to the season.

I'd love to get him on a minor league deal and have him pitching in buffalo, and hopefully in citifield where he always belonged...

I wonder what made him decline so steeply and rapidly.

Still, I'd be OK offering a minor league contract.

was he ever really all that good?

Quality pitching is ephemeral. Simple as that. It's always a bad bet in the long-term, and investing in a lot of good pitchers is always a better bet than investing in one or two excellent ones.

And it seems like employing someone like Rick Peterson who's fairly good at determining good/healthy pitching motions, might be a good idea.

I'd take his 2005-2008 numbers from anyone who wants to put them up. Certainly not CY Young years, but all pretty good in my book.

45-34 with a 3.51 ERA over that span. 742 Ks in 689.2 IP.

2009-2011 = 19-24 with a 5.54 ERA with 210 Ks in 299 IP.

yeah I don't disagree just it was always a tough billing for him , a good pitcher but not a great pitcher.

I too would like to see him as a Mets pitcher and get some semblance of good form back.

The thing about Kazmir was never that he was going to be a sure-fire savior (even if there were those who painted him that way) it was that the Mets sold low on him just as he seemed to be reaching his high.

Yankees looking at Kazmir, need for a leftie out of the pen.

I think that's "Yankees _should_ look at Kazmir" not that they are looking. Heyman 'reporting'.
