He was born in Arkansas, and resides there during the offseason, right? Texas heat would be a really, REALLY odd reason to turn down additional money/guaranteed years with a team that seemed just as equipped to compete now AND in the future... in a place without state income tax.

"A strong preference for Philadelphia and the organization/people therein" is probably closer to it... but man, that would be one strong preference. (Maybe he just REALLY likes guys named "Roy.")

There was a tweet sometime back that Lee feared the TX heat would negatively affect his performance. I think he enjoyed his time in Philly and is happy to go back.

Some nice real estate to buy a home in.

I thought someone tweeted that the money was _heavily_ deferred (with Texas)? Sounds like Lee opted for the most per year option.

Who tweeted? You're the blogger.

What do you think they'll give us for Matt Harvey?

Whatever it is, make sure it's an out-of-season trade.

Come the end of July, Ruben Amaro appears to able to talk the habit off a nun and have her pay for her own cab back to the convent.

The grapes are starting to taste sour for the Yankee shills.
Around 6:30 tonight, Michael Kay said (a close paraphrase) that Lee isn't a big loss - he only had one really good year. And he got hit around in his first start after he got traded this year.

You can't make this stuff up.

Do you think the Phils are going to trade one of those pitchers? A guy like Hamels could bring back some position players that they'll need to replace the aging and banged=up guys.

I think they're looking to trade Blanton.
They'll probably have to eat some money to do so but they have to cut somewhere and he's pretty expensive for a 5th starter.

Blanton pitched much better the second half of the year than he did the first half (after missing April with an injury), and his HR rate would presumably be lower here than it's been in Philly. While I doubt they'd trade him to us, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Do you suppose that if Lee chose the MFY's, Kay would, instead, be gloating about all the socks Lee's gonna knock off everybody in 2011? ;-)*

So they can have that Lee-Harvey-Oswalt rotation?

Sounds like a conspiracy to me.

I hope Lee doesn't pitch any shutouts next season. Because when it comes to the Phillies, I'm no zip-rooter.

He could pitch a gem. Maybe even a Ruby.

Dig if u will the picture

The Yanks made an offer, got dissed
The sound of their anguish pleases me
I say to all of you Mets fans

Can u picture this?

Dream if u can a picture
Of Yankee fan doom and gloom
Dewy eyes and running noses
They have been beat
In the Lee sweepstakes, through and through.

How could he leave the Yanks standing?
And take the Phills offer, so bold ? (So bold)
Maybe his wife was demanding
Maybe he wanted a shortstop not too old
One offers not like another
His wife wasnt satisfied (Wasnt satisfied)
She remembered the Yankee fans treatment
Of her, and when she did
She told Cliff, he shouldnt even try.

The fans were just too much to stomach
Especially when they made spittle fly
Amaro had all the strings tied up
The Lee signing decision was easy
He didnt have to swallow his great pride

How could he leave the Yanks standing?
Not come into the pinstripes fold? (Pinstripes fold)
Now their shill writers are working
Telling us he is too old
But you know if hed taken Cashmans offer
A different story wed be told
But then the fans screamed bloody murder
You know Mets fans like it
When Yank fans cry
