Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I think it's more like no hardy backslapping, tales about the ol' days, and stories that write themselves from Backman.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Is the two-year deal thing confirmed? If so, why only two years?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I expect Terry's reign to be relatively brief. He's 61 years old, and he hasn't shown staying power in his other jobs. This is one of the reasons I was hoping for Chip Hale. Chip, at least, if things go well, can stick around for 10 or 15 years. That seems a lot less likely with Terry. One thing I read today said that Chip was a close second. That may or may not be true, but perhaps the plan is for Terry to groom Chip to take over in 2013?

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Madden today was trying to say that Wally was so balls-out to win, he'd have been a bad fit for thegradual ascent to greatness that Sandy has in mind. Of course Madden was quick to refer to Collins as "Twice-Fired" and "Tightly Wound" within the first few grafs. I think TF/TW/TC has the makings of a a good nickname.

The Dodgers had three (out of thirty), and they're renowned for their long managerial tenures. The Yankees also had three (out of 34), but they were extremely successful on the field. The Reds, Indians and White Sox never had any. Thinking about whether a manager will be around ten years from now is a waste of time in a hiring decision: he won't, and that's that.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 You know, Terry Collins was fired by the Anaheim Angels. Wally Backman was fired by the Joliet Jackhammers.People lose jobs (except for shit-stirring sportswriters, apparently). That's how they become available. Does it make a difference that his boss with the Angels was miserable when he fired him and publickly expressed that he would have fired the team if he could have?I'm feeling a little tightly wound myself.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'm fine with him until the Mets' performance on the field gives me a reason not to be.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I hope I'm wrong about this.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I don't see any reason to worry. 2011 is likely to be fairly sucky anyway. If Terry screws up as badly as some fear, there will be someone else in place in 2012.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 The press conference will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow.Looks like the Mets are confirming that Warthen and Hale will retain their coaching positions from last year.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 ESPN reporting that Bowa is a "strong possibility" for bench coach.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'm pretty sure that Bowa is Riccaridi's idea......you are right , Alderson is brilliant...
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 i just wish we woulda got ourselves a manager who's already won a world series. cos we all know that once you win one world series, you keep winning them wherever you manage. right? right?
