According to Metsblog, the Padres GM Jed Hoyer has confirmed that Alderson has asked permission to speak to Paul DePodesta. How cool would that be if we got him? I can't believe how excited I am over this. I realize that the track records of some of these deputies aren't exactly stellar, but with the Mets resources, I feel like this team could become something credible.

You hear good things about these guys, but sometimes I wonder if they're the 'chic' pick.

I mean, everybody picks people they know and like, but sometimes you wonder if it wouldn't be better to look to see if somethings better than stick to the comfortable choice.

btw, 3 months ago "Why would anyone want to work for Jeff Wilpon?" and Alderson basically takes a job 'below' him to be here, and Riccardi gets out of Boston as fast as he can when he's offered a shot here. He was basically sitting in a meeting with Theo Epstein and got up and left for NY. Hasn't word got out that Jeffy's a big bad wolf?

Perhaps the word got out that Sandy's a bigger and badder wolf.

I like it , revisionist history is kind to DePodesta and the mess with the Dodgers; if you look back at his time there it wasn't all bad and anyway when McCourt came he fired him, some say a few of the local hacks who ere very anti-moneyball helped sway McCourt.

It'll be interesting to see what titles these guys get and how they divide up the work.

Opposite Mets! They had to be the dumbest team in baseball for 5 years in order to realize they should have been the smartest.

Unless "Pat" is a woman, there's an overabundance of testosterone in that front office.

Who's Richard Wilpon?

If I remember correctly, Fred has another son who lives in Japan, not sure if that's Richard though.

Jeff's brother in Tokyo is Bruce. Their sister is Robin.

Richard is Fred's brother. Saul Katz is the husband of Fred's sister, Iris.

Study up. Test tomorrow.

I'm sure more than a few scouted Matsui.

It's more true to say that he helped woo Matsui.

really? , my memory is that the Mets took him solely on the scouting of Bruce.

Really hope DePodesata keeps up his blog. He's been really good about actually explaining moves to fans.

Devodesta got the job Omar might have ascended to.

No. Kaz was a major talent in the JPL still in his prime and the Mets were hardly sold on him simply via Tokyo Bruce's say so - even if anti-Wilponism and revisionist history are in favor of painting it the other way.

Well, get used to hacky columnists making reference to "slide-rulers" and Dungeons & Dragons whenever we lose 3 in a row for the next few years.

Oh, man, Joe Morgan is going to be impossible, isn't he?

"You see, what the Mets don't seem to realize is that baseball isn't played on a computer."

And that's why you mute Joe Morgan. (Well, that and the convenient factual errors and fabrications he makes when recounting his career. And the Big Red Machine boasting. And the weird, random chuckling.)

If not for postseason radio, I wouldn't remember the sound of his voice.
