Well, call me Metsfanforever. How about that? You're right.

It really looks like Collins is serious. No honorary invites for high-end prospects still a few years away, major-league veterans on the road back, and minor-league veterans who had a good year but still have too many bodies to climb over in one spring. It seems only people with a realistic chance of going north are really going to start on the MLB side of camp.

If this is the way it breaks, I can't recall if I've ever seen anything like it. Most Met teams would have invited Wilmer Flores by now. Josh Satin, Jose De La Torre.... Pretty remarkable that a guy can go to the AFL and not get a camp invite the next spring.

If indeed the bench plays out something like Vic sketched out... might it not be better to have Pridie on there over Harris? The positional flexibility isn't as much of an asset on a bench where every other player plays multiple positions, and Pridie's more of an ACTUAL defensive plus (as opposed to a mirage buttressed by a couple of nice Met kills).

Probably, but from everything I read after Harris signed, he was all but assured of making the team.

Bea Arthur will tell you, the only assurance that cuts ice is a big league contract.

The way I see it is that Hairston and Evans objectively look like better players. Harris has the advantage of an anecodotally plus defensive skill set and a lefthanded bat, but anecdotes are anecdotes, and it's a crappy lefthanded bat. So plenty still needs to play out.

Obviously it's way too early, but personally I'm not a huge fan of Emaus, and I hope someone other than Harris, maybe Evans, makes the bench.

big deal... i've been posting basically that same roster for months in this thread. Everybody has projected that same roster, basically. The only difference between his projections and mine is that he has Misch being kept in the bullpen over Acosta.

Vic, another difference is that he gets paid for making his predictions.

Spring training creates hopes. Spring Training dashes them.

Most precarious positons below, in order:

1. Oliver Perez, who is being given enough rope to hang himself as a bullpen lefty;
   
2. Brad Emaus, who hasn't shown enough to stay, even if the Mets are vulnerable to lose him otherwise, as they have to pass both Hu and Hernandez through waivers if they don't make it and both of them play shortstop, and Hu (and maybe Hernandez also) is outplaying him;
   
3. Nick Evans, as Beltran's knee issues and the Mets infield ambiguities is creating an increased need for the more defense-offering and more versatile Willie Harris;
   
4. Pedro Beato, who is staving off the charges of many useful bullpenners, not least of which is Jason Isringhausen.

Look for all these guys to be updated one way or another on the next roster update, but I had to take care of them cuts first. I agree with prior predictions that they farm out Beato and send Evans to Baltimore as compensation.
