our team's finalist for this year:
New York Mets: Angel Pagan

I know pitchers aren't players and all, but I'd ask the team to reconsider that choice and push R.A. Dickey.

Wait, that wasn't a sarcastic article?

Well, the author should be happy that his favorite player does hold at least one major league record.
IIRC, Kuiper went over 1,000 major league at bats before he hit his first (and only) major league home run.
Of course, it seems that the award is for someone who consistently outplays his natural ability. So, if Jeter is the perfect baseball player*, how can he exceed perfection?

Somewhere, Ian O'Connor is planning a hissy fit the likes of which cannot be measured!

Those of you who are unfamiliar with Joe Posnanski:

1) You shouldn't be. He's the best regular sports columnist in the country these days, with the real good stuff coming on his blog. If you look at O'Connor and Matthews and Lupica and Madden on a semi-regular basis, and skipping Posnanski, you're doing yourself a disservice.

2) Almost all of the Jeter stuff is delivered with a wink. (While acknowledging that EdgyNY is a hell of a ballplayer, Posnanski's gently, repeatedly made the case that Jeter is somewhat-to-very overrated among his peers.)

Agree on Joe P.......my mistake if I missed the nod and wink going on.....I thought I felt something puling at my leg but dismissed it.

I don't read a lot of stuff on my own unless someone links it (I waste enough time here, and there and everywhere. I'm probably too relient on the idea that if a post/column is good enough it'll get to me one way or another and I'll read it) , and I dismiss most of those other guys. I wouldn't even have been able to name all the beat writers prior to Twitter.

2. I did think it was sarcastic, but then everyone seemed to be taking it seriously so I figured I was wrong.

I plead guilty of falling for the trap.

BTW- was listening to the end of the MFY game on radio tonight.
It ended with Oh Captain My Captain grounding into a double play.
John Sterling sounded like someone had shot his dog in front of his eyes.
Then he kept saying how close the play at first was, like a gambler who keeps looking through his cards, hoping he can find some winners in the hand he just lost.
