Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 OK, that might be a little harsh. But he tweeted this today:pelfrey's new pitch and ike davis (even if hes 4th or 5th best rookie) make #mets legit contender, at least for wild cardWould it kill him to say something positive about the Mets without the backhand slaps? Pelfrey's done more than add a pitch. And it doesn't matter if Davis is the 12th best rookie, he's contributing.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Heyward is better than Ike. I guess you have to say Strasburg as well, but the guy has had one start. Who else is there? The guy on St. Louis is pretty good, but I don't think he has Ike's power.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Only eight NLers have had enough PAs/IPs to qualify.Pitchers:Jaime Garcia, STL -- 5-2, 1.47 through 11 startsMike Leake, CIN -- 5-0, 2.22 through 11 startsBatters:Jason Heyward, ATL -- .271/.397/.510, 10 HR, 40 RBIIke Davis, NYM -- .259/.355/.462, 7 HR, 19 RBIJosh Freese, STL -- .313/.381/.443, 4 HR, 32 RBIThe other three -- Ian Desmond, Gaby Sanchez, Alcides Escobar -- have been good, but not better than any of those five.Heyman didn't do that much research, but he might be right on that specific nugget.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Silly stuff, 4th , 5th.....in my heart Ike is # 1
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Sure, but that's a snapshot. Some guys got a head start on others and they all got a head start on Strasburg (and Stanton, for that matter).
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I'd love to see Ike Davis win the Rookie of the Year award, but it's a tough field and the odds are against him. I'm content, though, to have a rookie player who's performing well and establishing himself.
