Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I guess this stuff belongs in either a Marlins KTE or today's IGT but those threads are MIA.1. Oliver Perez to DL with "knee tendinitis."2. Hanley Ramirez running his mouth last night, "They boo their own players so we like to come here and beat the Mets.''
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 If I was the commissioner, I'd be insisting on seeing the medical reports saying that Ollie is injured.I guess it probably isn't too hard finding tendinitis in any athlete, but nonetheless this smells like a sham. Granted, a sham that works in our favor and solves an immediate problem. But as a fan of the game, I'm troubled by this convenient "injury." ____________As for Hanley - playing in Florida, I guess he doesn't know what fans sound like....
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Hanley Ramirez has fast become a player I really dislike , for a lot of reasons.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 As a fan of the Mets. I have no problem with this convenient injury, any more than with Crash Davis (or Bill Veeck) manufacturing a rainout.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Ollie has the right to dispute a DL assignment that he doesn't think is right. It's rare that a player does something like this - many are too young and too afraid to rock the boat - but if there's nothing to it and he thinks it's just retribution for not accepting a demotion then he/Boras could certainly challenge it. If they're not then it's unlikely the commish's office is going to intervene.Oh, and Hanley, come here and play like that and we'll boo your expanding ass too.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Really, you don't think Marlins fans would be booing your ass-dragging play if they were showing up?
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 themetfairy wrote:But as a fan of the game, I'm troubled by this convenient "injury."He obviously needs some time away, tendinitis sounds better than needs a check-up from the neck up. Guest Kong76 Guests Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 He should grow a real beard during the fifteen days.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I am equally troubled (but not really caring) about the sudden and convenient "injury"Would Boras/Perez dispute it? I'm not sure. I wouldn't be shocked AT ALL if Boras and Minay talked BEFOREHAND and decided to concoct the injury as a means of letting both sides save face on the dispute over whether or not to go down.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 OK - face saving aside, how is he going to get in work to fix his stupid problems if he's technically injured?
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 minor league rehab assignment while on the DL
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 Exactly. Send his ass to Port St. Lucie and have him work on his stuff. Or let him rot there, I guess.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Well, those 'injury rehab' stints have time limits - something that's MLB mandated not just a team decision - so Ollie has to be re-instated once that's up assuming he continues to exercise his right not to be assigned to the minors.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Time limit is a relative term: it's 30 days after his first appearance in a sanctioned game. A 15 day stint could be indefinite.Personally, I hope he comes back as an effective starter, but I doubt he can.

Go.My co-worker, Blake. No, I don't think he actual ever shows up for a game. They're maybe his fourth favorite team, after the Dolphis and a few college football teams I couldn't give two shits about.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Could of things, supposedly they will review the data because certain teams complained. (But, no one complained about Maine. I guess because it wasn't as long a layoff and it was more believable when the found something...after...they put him on the DL?)I'm sure they'll be able to find something/did find something to justify it, if only barely. From what I've been reading though, sounds like if it's bothering him, it's not really bothering him. Will be interesting to see how soon he pitches in a game.Hanley's a moron, but we knew that. Do the tons of Mets fans in Miami just not boo the Mets on the road? I always feel it's wrong to boo the Mets at all on the road or when the Yankees are visiting. Otherwise I'd imagine Citi and Dolphin+ would sound the same.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 MLB to independently review the Perez injury, including MRIs, as per DJ You're Money and You Don't Even Know It.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Omir Santos optioned to AA , Lennon speculating it sets up for Jesus Feliciano rising up to the big club for Tuesday.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 They said he'd probably be up on the tv 'cast ... been in the minors like 13 years (I think they said today is his birthday)and has never got in The Book.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Makes sense that with the day off on Monday Blanco will be more recovered from whatever bang-up he's had - so no more need for Santos. Now suddenly with Pagan, Bay & Francoeur all hitting, a bench of Carter, Feliciano & Tatis (plus the backup C & IF) doesn't look too bad.

I wouldn't be shocked AT ALL if Boras and Minay talked BEFOREHAND and decided to concoct the injury as a means of letting both sides save face on the dispute over whether or not to go down.Of course they won't dispute it.One point I discovered: If Perez accepts a minor league assignment, the time doesn't count toward his pension. If he's on the DL, it does. That would have been the major financial advantage of not going to the minors. This lets Ollie have his cake and eat it, too (i.e., simultaneously, for the nitpickers who don't understand the meaning of the idiom). MLB should be all over this, in any case. It's much too convenient for everyone. Of course, if they call it a sham and demand Ollie is back on the roster, someone will just have to make sure he is >really< injured. Maybe a baseball bat accidentally falls and breaks his non-pitching hand. I'm sure there will be some Mets fans who might be willing to take care of any accident.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Well I doubt a evidence of a broken hand presented in defense of a claim of knee tendonitis will help the Mets case very much.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I think this type of stuff happens all the time. Remember a few years ago the Red Sox took Lennyy DiNardo from the Mets in the Rule 5 draft, kept him on the roster and then decided he had "blisters" that sent him to the DL for pretty much the rest of the season. Remember, had he been sent back to the minors, the Mets could have demanded he come back to them. But with the magical blisters, he's in the majors as required and yet not on the roster.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 It doesn't take more than a flimsy justification. Maine was DL'd before the Mets could confirm that something wasn't right with his shoulder, and guys have been shelved for psychological reasons. It just has to be something the league will buy, or at least not protest.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 And a fraudulent injury unconnected to any pubickly witnessed incident, sustained by a mostly inactive player, in the midst of an ineffective season, at the end of a week of you will go to the minors/I will not/yes you will/no I won't dramawould be pretty brazen, if fraud is what's going on.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Can something be circumstantially brazen?
