All-Time National League East Team: The Left Fielder

[G-Fafif]

7 in your scorecard, 2 for our roster. We would ask you choose your left fielders (and all other positions) solely on the National League East tenures.

Thought this list would be phatter.

Lou Brock, Billy Williams.

This is without research but I'm making all my selections w/o any.
I shoot from the hip baby.

I think Bonds is the clear #1, even though most of his big big numbers were put up in San Francisco.

I always thought of Brock and Raines as being about even, but Raines actually had slightly more stolen bases per plate appearance than Brock during his time in the NL East, and he had a higher batting average. And the only two aspects of the game where Brock was any good at all were stealing and hitting for average. So Raines is my #2.

OE - Bonds was unquestionably a jerk, almost definitely was a steroid user and a felon, and in general was a disgrace to the game. But he wasn't noticeably any of those things during his time in Pittsburgh, so I didn't hold that against him here.

Clff Floyd, also a Montrealer.

Garry Matthews, also an Atlantean.

I went for Bonds and Williams, for meaningful fractions of their careers, but I'm thinking of going with Raines.

Changed Floyd (thanks), not Matthews, as GMS's Brave tenure was in the N.L. West.

But not in the NL East, duh.

OE: yup, you beat me.

Raines and Bonds

Just like in center field, my vote matches Namor's.

Same.

We're like an imaginary-honor-bestowing Borg.

Billy Williams.
Bonds doesn't deserve any votes .... not even in our poll.
(well, if you asked us to name the biggest douchebag of his era....)

Williams and Raines. In a virtual dead heat for the second spot, Raines edges out Brock based on his vastly superior defense. Brock was never a very good defensive player.
