bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 The Stone® Age is over--he was returned to Buffalo.Rubin says that Ike is batting 7th tonight.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 It's got to be some sort of feeling for Davis tonight.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I just told you! Steve Garvey wore number 6![/quote:3oqihnpt]Ike was born March 22, 1987. Garvey's Pads had a series in Chicago against Ron Davis' Cubs July 21-23, 1986, so for your theory to hold water, Ike would have had to have been born (conditional present perfect imperative?) at least one month premature. But there's probably a better way to welcome the guy to the Mets than to insult his mother.[/quote:3oqihnpt]I'll say it right now... I'd like to punch Ike Davis' mother in the neck and kick her in her hotdogholio. Welcome to the Show, rook.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 WOW, I didn't realize he's this oldhttp://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/davisik01.shtml

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I like how Ed Coleman says, "He needs a blow." (Does he still say that? I remember that from around 2005. "Willie says that Piazza needed a blow.")
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I remember having to say the phrase "three-day blow" onstage for a school play. ("Our Town?")I hope Reyes doesn't need a three-day blow.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 "The Three-Day Blow was also the name of an Ernest Hemingway story, in which two guys get real drunk and talk baseball.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 29? That would suck.[/quote:1u2yy36x]I agree. That's not an appropriate number. (See? I told you I'd recognize an inappropriate number!)
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 That number belongs all over Murphy's back.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Pops was 39 most often.3 or 9 would work nicely. 49 would also be a bunch cooler.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Ike's not a single-digit guy. Going off Pop's numbers, I like 53. Be different, man.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Ike Davis, on pace to bat 1.000 FOR HIS MAJOR LEAGUE CAREER. Can't wait for his number retirement ceremony this weekend.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Kevin Burkhardt talking with Jim Robinson, who was in the Negro League from 1952-1958. I have two comments.1) The Negro League lasted until 1958? I had no idea. I was sure it dissolved way before then.2) I could listen to old ballplayers tell stories all day long.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Two on, one out? Getting hit like you were married to a controlling soul singer? No problem, if you take it nice and Neise. (Oh, and do kiss Lou for us as you STFD, Geovany and Ryan.)
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 It was great to listen to Robinson, Burkhardt to his credit is great in such cases.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Kind of makes me wonder when the Mets are going to bring on the occasional African-American broadcaster.Ike Davis, on pace to bat 1.000 FOR HIS MAJOR LEAGUE CAREER. Can't wait for his number retirement ceremony this weekend.Interestingly enough, it's already retired. How many players have made their debut in a retired uniform number?

I once met one of the last players, who seemed kind of young to me. He explained that there were teams that went into the 1960s, but certainly not on the scale from that they once were.Niese looks to be tiring. Hang in there!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Hawkman really seems to enjoy dancing on the tightrope.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Niese has been inspired by the presence of Davis tonight. A little shaky, but he's getting huge K's when he needs them.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Niese = Good pitcher. We could really use a few runs.

Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Bases juiced!!! Let's get a big hit here.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Kind of a cheap run, but we'll take it!
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 All with two out, no less. Feels like "How the Other Half Lives."
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 That was a terrible AB by Wright, just horrible.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Hmmm. Pitcher goes into a funk. Can't find the plate.....and DWright swings at the first four pitches he sees.
