The squad was expected to split today, but the game against the Nats in Viera has been called onnacounta rain.

It's rainy iin Port St. Lucie also. They're hoping to get the game in anyhow, but they've bumped Ollie until tomorrow. Scheduled to go is Jon Niese, to be followed by Fernando Nieve, Jenrry Mejia, Bobby Parnell and Pedro Feliciano.

But they'll start the guy whose hamstring detached from the bone instead?

I'm thinking they're just afraid a slip-slide-y Ollie may just accidentally kill somebody's grandmother in the stands with an errant slider.

You don't have to like it, but vets typically get this courtesy --- treated as more valuable and delicate even when they're maybe not.

Listen, I was taking the piss a little and yeah vets get this courtesy and I don't want to make this a big deal as it's not but get the fuck out and pitch bitch, you were shit last season .

Amen. Courtesy to vets can come back after we post a winning record.

Niese gets the Fish in order in the first.

Sanchez returns the favor, while striking out the first two Metlies.

Florida loads the bags with two hits and a walk in the second, but Niese gets a big out courtesy of Brian Barden.

He now has an ERA below five.

Niese will be the #5 or better on opening day

Hey, Mets, you think you can put up a five-run second?

Yeah, we can do that.

How about doing that with the key blow being a two-run double by Niese.

Done!

Sadly, he might as well be called the #2 starter.

As we post Rubin reports TK2 and Figgy have made the team. Parnell & Green go to the herd and the last pitching spot is a tossup between Mejia and Kiko Calero

...the thing that has driven Mets fans crazy over the last five seasons watching Mejia dominate the American League is that he was once a top prospect in their organization. The Mets went with veteran Kiko Calero as their eighth-inning guy out of spring training in 2010 over the untested Mejia, and then, in an unfortunately failed attempt to vault into the playoff picture at the All-Star break, dealt Mejia, along with 2012 AL Rookie of the Year Ike Davis and catcher Omir Santos, to Kansas City for starter Brian Bannister and three-time All-Star catcher Jason Kendall. Kendall hit .195 over the remainder of the season before retiring, and Bannister signed a four-year, $38 million free agent contract with Atlanta that December, helping them to three straight division titles.[/quote:2izcdhbk]

I don't know if you're paying attention but the Marlins got four back in the third, with errata by Niese and by Francoeur in there.

Score is now 6-4, with Raul Valdes on to pitch. Yeah, he'll have a big impact on this season.

Not carrying Mejia has no bearing on whether or not he'll be dealt, so I don't recommend writing off five years of your life.

Feliciano fans two in his inning of work.

Four errors on the day.

It wasn't meant to be unloving.

Nieve comes on for the sieve and the Mets win! Three hits for Francoeur and two each for Muffy and Tejada.
