Oh, God, No. (Or, "FatCatcher: The Conclusion?")

BAD NEWS
waste of dollars when you can get 99% of Molina for under a million a year. his OBP will murder rallies. his fat body will kill them too on the few occassions he gets on base.

I have no problem with a two year deal for Molina. He played in a park even bigger than Citi Field and hit 20 HRs last year. And they'll bat him 8th and pinch run for him late anyway.

SS Reyes
2B Castillo
3B Wright
LF Bay
CF Beltran
RF Francoeur
1B Murphy
C Molina
SP

I like it top to bottom.

Go get Carlos Zambrano, finish putting this fucker together please Omar.

i dont care if he hits 20, his OBP should scare you. and i'll bet the Mets, being followers of idiotic and outdated thinking, will look at those homers (and rbis) and bat him 6th more than 8th.

That's a pretty broad generalization.

Okay, if you revise Namor's statement from "the Mets" to "those who make up the batting order for this team," does it strike your ear better, Edge?

He's not very good at the most important thing to do when playing offensive baseball. He's no great shakes defensively, and gets run on more than essays by hyper middle-schoolers. He's durable, but is also 35. Signing him to two years is kinda lunatic.

Thankfully, it may not actually be so.

I imagine it may not be. The last time I thought somebody was being overharsh about signing him, he wasn't signed then either.

i really think the mets are one of the worst teams in the league over the last few years when it comes to making a batting order (after deciding which 9 guys are playing), but i doubt there'd be any way to prove or dispprove that.

Well, take the bull by the horns. Once you've decided on your nine guys (although idiotic and outdated thinking has to muck that up a bunch), there are only 362,880 possible different batting orders.

I would much rather get a better first baseman and see how Thole and Santos platoon.[/quote:2sa05msu]

Blanco would (and should) be a more prominent member of that platoon, but I agree with the sentiment that whats on the roster is just fine (compared to molina). I would play Blanco while mixing in some Santos or Coste. Thole can start the year at AAA with the plan being not to call him up unless injuries make you desperate or his performance forces the issue.

I would rather spend the $$ on a pitcher and save the $$ next year for future first baseman Joe Mauer.[/quote:w17fguck]

some of next year's potential free agents ...

Joe Mauer
Albert Pujols (But only if the Cards dont exercise their $16M option. Yeah right.)
Derek Jeter
Martiano Rivera
Jorge Cantu
Manny Ramirez
Lance Berkman
David Ortiz
Carl Crawford
Adam Dunn
Josh Beckett
Brandon Webb|
Cliff Lee

Ramon Castro

Do we have anybody coming off the books after this season -- who we'd want to be coming off the books?

Yes, we do, and --- to listen to Met fans --- they want everybody off the books.

That's the way I've been thinking as well.

Not that I can think of. If I'm remembering correctly, there are a number of guys whose contracts expire after 2011, but I'm not aware of any Mets multi-year contracts that expire in 2010.

After 2011, I think that Beltran, Perez, Castillo, and Rodriguez will be "coming off the books."

The main guys whose contracts that expire after 2010 are Jerry Manuel and Jose Reyes. Both have options for 2011, Jose's at $11 million.

Fire Jerry Manuel captures my feelings on the Molina matter pretty perfectly.
