Obviously, a lot of this could break several ways. There seem to be one spot open in the rotation, three in the pen, one or two in the outfield, and one going to an infielder or a catcher, currently held down (this week) by Anderson Hernandez.

Misch and Figgy are ahead of Stokes and others by virtue of throwing unlikely shutouts the last week of the season. Oh, and being healthy. That helps.

It was a one-year deal, but he's still listed on the roster, so I don't know what his cake is.

I guess if we boot him, that makes next in line for the fifth starter Figgy-Stokes-Niese-Nieve?

Nieve was pitching like a prince when he went down, but his injury seemed serious enough that I don't expect he'll be in any rotation without first seeing some rehab time, and I probably shouldn't have put him ahead of the line for a bullpen spot either.

less then 6 years service time so he was only a free agent as he was non-tendered, presume that means it's up to use whether or not we want to tender him a contract

Maybe Stokes or Figgy is ahead of the line but Niese is probably the one they want to step up and take the final pitching slot, and they've never shown any shyness about squeezing those guys through waivers if they have to.

The double non-tender of Reed and Sullivan open up a roster slot for Chris Carter. In actuality, right now, he's probaly fighting with Nick Evans for it. But new is hot. New is exciting. I'm giving the new guy the edge. Least until we get Bay or somesuch.

OK, this is what I've got while the signings of Bay and Molina are still unofficial.

Figueroa, Stokes, and Hernandez are out of options, so the Mets have an incentive to keep them coming out of camp if they can, though it's not like Figueroa hasn't snuck through waivers more than once (to his wife's everloving joy). They probably will have bumped out Figgy and Stokes by the end of camp, but this is where it stands. I need to add free agents as well

Well, it looks like this thing is really going to happen. I'm looking at it for now as him displacing Martinez on the roster -- rather than Carter --- as (1) Fernando's skills are more redundant with Pagan's, (2) Fernando has more option years left, (3) Fernando is younger, and (4) Fernando, as always, needs reps.

In truth, it says "options" because, should he be added to thr 40-man roster, the team would have options to bounce him between Buffalo and Gotham.

He deserves that. He has certainly put in his time in the minors as an "organizational guy" and the three option recalls would give him a chance to probably double his minor league salary.
