Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JULY 2009 The Schaefer Mets Player and Pitcher of the Month for July 2009 is JOHAN SANTANA. This is the sixth time that Santana has been Pitcher of the Month, and the fourth time that he's also been Player of the Month. In July, Santana was 3-2 in five starts, with a 1.82 ERA in 34.2 innings. His ERA led the team, and his 24 strikeouts and 3 wins tied Mike Pelfrey for the club lead. (Pelfrey had one more start than Santana, pitching 35.1 innings over 6 starts with a 4.84 ERA.)July's leading position player is Luis Castillo. Luis finished a mere 1.07 points behind Santana in the Player of the Month race, and actually was in the lead prior to Santana's July 30 start. Castillo led the Mets in July with 28 hits, a .368 batting average, a .447 slugging percentage and a .478 OBP, as well as 4 stolen bases. He tied for the club lead in runs scored, 17, with David Wright. And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is BRIAN STOKES. Stokes had a 1.54 ERA in July in 12 games, pitching 11.2 innings. He had no wins, losses, or saves. He finished only slightly ahead of Bobby Parnell, who pitched 10.1 scoreless innings over 12 games, and Sean Green, who had 1 save and a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings and 15 games. This is Brian's second win this season (he also won in April) and fourth since he joined the Mets late in the 2008 season.Month-to-date totals for July 2009Through game of July 31, 2009RankNamePoints1Johan Santana17.602Luis Castillo16.533David Wright14.064Mike Pelfrey13.345Daniel Murphy12.996Jeff Francoeur12.007Angel Pagan9.478Fernando Tatis9.389Livan Hernandez8.0410Brian Stokes7.4111Bobby Parnell7.2212Sean Green7.1913Omir Santos5.9114Ryan Church5.7115Pedro Feliciano5.4316Gary Sheffield5.4017Oliver Perez5.3418Pat Misch5.0419Fernando Nieve4.5220Jon Niese4.4621Francisco Rodriguez3.6522Brian Schneider3.6423Jeremy Reed3.4223Alex Cora3.4225Elmer Dessens3.0626Cory Sullivan2.4727Nick Evans2.1228Angel Berroa1.3829Tim Redding0.5430Argenis Reyes0.14

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Biggest story of the year, in my opinion, below the boatload of injuries and the Bernazard/Minaya/Rubin fiasco: where the hell did David Wright's power go?
