Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 The pitcher we're facing - Rodrigo Lopez - is call-up making not only his Phils debut but also his first ML appearance since 2007 w/the Rox. He's replacing Anthony Bastardo who's on the shelf w/an injury after he was called up to replace the injured (and stupid) Brett Myers).Lopez spent 2008 pitching only a handful of innings (injured I guess) in the lower levels of the Braves system, and 2009 to date at AAA for the Phils with decent results. He seems to keep the ball in the park and not walk too many (4 HR & 13 BBs in 13 starts/71 IP) which helps him get away with a hits>IP trend (83/71) and still keep the ERA low-ish at 3.91
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 He's the guy who used to wear No. 13 with the Os.

They picked him up last year, but he had Tommy John at the end of 2007. The Phillies signed him in March, where as you note, he's pitched okay.Pitcher's back from Tommy John seem to pitch differently, so I'm not sure how his career factors in, but he's generally given up about a home run a game (and this is CBP, so inflate that) and has never been better than average. I like this lineup, excepting Tatis for Castillo (think Tatis yesterday was the exception unfortunately, and Castillo gets on base. Not to mention defense) Things swing on Livan. The Phillies haven't been hitting, so let's avoid waking the bats up and we should be able to sweep them. I think only Ruiz, Utley, and Victorino are hitting about .260 Let's try to keep the walks down, keep the home runs to solos, and win this. Pittsburgh's starter yesterday, Maholm, has a better ERA than either of the Phillies starters this weekend (better than Hamels too, who again finds a way around pitching to the Mets) They've hit Moyer, and Blanton is hittable as well.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm feeling this game big time.....let's Go Mets
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Not feeling the game at the minute though...
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Big K of Bako. If he gets Lopez it's not too horrible.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 And there you are.I'm not sure if it bears out in fact, but my monkey brain is telling me that Livan's one of the few Met starters who's managed not to hand over the store to opposing pitchers.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 And the sac fly makes it 4. I have a feeling we'll get some back soon. But Jebus Christ, he's getting hit hard-- how the hell Victorino's was the only hit, I don't know.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 I was momentarily upset that Church didn't catch that ball, before I remember that I was just used to Beltran catching *everything.* Come back soon, Carlos.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 Leadoff walk to Schneider. Livan needs to be hitting here. No bunts.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Well, we better start hitting.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 Don't you fucking laugh, Nick Evans. There's nothing funny about you failing to give way to the centerfielder when you're supposed to. There's nothing funny about being down 5 runs. There was especially nothing funny about your misplay of Dobbs' flyball in the first inning.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 (edited) I am trying to think of a worse defensive team that has taken the field for the Mets in recent years. Edited July 3, 2009 by Guest
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Could a guy be hit any harder than Livan right now? JHC

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm tuning in now. Things wil improve.(I mean, that's a safe bet, right?)
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Did Chase Utley just steal second base in the fourth inning with a 7-0 lead? Livan, throw a pickoff off his fucking helmet.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Hey, even if they lose this game -- and there's still a lot of baseball, even with Chase Fucking Utley stealing bases with a seven-run fucking lead -- if they win the next two, they leave Philly tied. That's not so bad.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I blame the hats. They're playing like a red hat ladies luncheon.
