Since no one else has, and since my other adoptee is floundering in Florida, I will pick up the Mets first pick of the 2009 draft, give him a good home, nurture him, suckle him on Mets-milk.

Like Lenny treated the mouse in "Of Mice and Men," at the beginning that is.

And if you find some navy #2 tees in his bureau on one of your home visits, does he get the treatment that mouse got later on?

Maybe. Last thing I need is to hear my boy's talk of soft rain falling.

The flip side is that my wife was a Yankees fan when I met her and I converted her to the good guys' side. So no one is beyond redemption.

Seeing as how the minor league season is virtually over, my guess is 'none'.
I suspect he'll see some instructional league time and maybe ride the bench somewhere (GCL?) while they get him ready for next year.

rubin agrees

Matz will report to the Gulf Coast League, likely on Friday, but hes unlikely to pitch with that team since theres only a couple of weeks left in that season. Play continues in Port St. Lucie after that with the instructional league.

This is interesting , from the same article

Steve Matz realized he could have a professional baseball career only in the past year, when a growth spurt turned his 5-foot-7, 140-pound frame as a freshman into its current 6-4 and approaching 200 pounds.

My body just started getting bigger and everything, said Matz, a lefthander from Ward Melville High School, who grew up a Mets fan in Stony Brook, L.I. Thats when I had my growth spurt. My velocity jumped a little bit.

that's crazy

Well that's actually growth scattered over four years, not just one, although it's still kind of a lot.

Notice in the Burkhardt interview the other night Matz was still ducking the question as to whether he was a Mets fan: 'well, I kinda liked all teams and just watched a lot of baseball whenever I could ,,, but my mom and grandma were'
This guy's got a pair of #2 pinstriped PJs in his drawer, I'm sure of it. Or maybe Pettitte since he's a LHP.

Put Matz on the milk carton, I don't see him on any current Mets minor league roster. Did they even sign him?

And Jeter has a pair of Matz' underwear in his drawer. I'm sure of it.

Edgy, I asked the Inside Pitch guy about Matz after I saw your post. Here's his reply:

Funny you should ask. I spoke with Hector Berrios while I was down there. Matz had his first EXST session on Friday. Berrios (who's the GCL pitching coach this year) said he's looking good. He didn't put him on the gun or anything yet, but he is in EXST working with the GCL club at the moment.
