Wow. We really can't ask more than what we getting from KRod. All the talk about All-Stars, both he and Santana need to make that squad.

Not that it mattered in the long run, but the Phils had no one to pr for tying-run Matt Stairs there?!?
Hell, I'd pr Hamels if I had to.

Towards the end of the game, Keith expressed that he wished all games were like this one.

Gary, whom you could hear getting ulcers by the minute, disagreed.

mgim: Rollins = punk

He can slide like that any time for any team I'm following.

Never said it was a bad slide ... but Rollins is still a punk!

He had a good game, and hasn't been playing well.

I assumed you were talking about the slide.

Just got home-- I feel like I'm high.

Shealike buzz in the house tonight. It was bracing... therapeutic, almost.

Howie couldn't shut up about how it was the first time that the park thundered like Big Shea.

Leiter never did that. Ever.

was it Leiter that made a charity-bet with Francessa/Russo that he could hit one ball to the warning track the whole season?

Gary remarked on that too.

He made some kind of silly bet with them like that. I forget the details.

But Piggies' original connection was that Leiter used to do that fake-bunt/swing-away thing a lot because it seemed to help his timing and he'd get the occasional (cheesy) hit out of it.
But Elster's right in that Leiter never stung a ball using that method the way Johan did last night. Even big Al's famous triple was really just a well-placed, soft-ish liner that was misplayed into a three-bagger.

Leiter might have been the worst I have ever seen with a bat but he was always fun to watch up there.

Definintely loud and a good time was had by all. I mean, even the Phillies fans got to see 4 home runs.

Two things I must mention:

a) I called the Beltran homer. I mean, really called it. Just had that feeling that after Wright put one out that Beltran would too, and I knew it would be first pitch. Ask the kid sitting next to me, he gave me all sorts of props.

B) I demanded that Church hit a home run and prove his worthiness. Saw it ticketed for the hat all the way, the way you know a 3-pointer is going in, as by that time we'd moved to the picnic area by French Fry Land.

Leiter stunk, but it isn't hard to think of ten worse. Statistically or visually.

re: base-running

For all the base-running gaffes we've made this year, last night's pair of run-into outs didn't bother me.

- Sheff hit a freakin' rocket, he hustled all the way (at least as much as his tender leg will allow) and it took a perfect bounce, excellent read by Ibanez (his fielding has surprised me as much as anything this year), and a good throw to get him. I didn't mind that he took a chance there but lost.

- Santos coming home:
I heard like three post-game callers to FAN and at least one of them crawled all over Shines for this one, but that kind of play is usually a go-on-contract play decided on beforehand. Omir did get a reasonable jump and if it's going to take a seemless charge, scoop and throw by Howard just to make it close I'll go 9 times out of 10 and maybe all 10.
Plus, as we all know, he was safe and it wasn't particularly close.
