Guest GYC Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Color me worried. I'm sure Crayola made it at some point.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 what's troubling is really that the mets 3,4,5 & 6 hitters have got off to pretty torrid starts. I know David Wright hasn't looked in syncbut the OPS' of them go like .8721.072.9051.099that should be a sign of winning team, not a losing one.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I had the same thought during the game last night. This team is strugling to win, even though Delgado, Church, Beltran and Wright are all off to good starts. Hell, even Castillo is hitting, yet the team is struggling to win. The Mets just can't seem to hand a lead to Putz and Rodriguez with any regularity. Hopefully, the starting pitching will get more consistent in the near future.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I agree with Greg's descriptions and accounts of the game.I'll add a picture. This is in the kiddie Mets store in the Fanfest area. It's a Mr. Met made out of jellybeans -
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Without doubt the most disappointing loss of this young season for me , facing their ace and getting to him early but failing to put the hammer down as it were.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I had to leave the house early last night, but caught the first inning and the Delgado HR. I thought with a 3 run lead against Peavy we would be set. Thoroughly disappointing to see later that they lost by a run.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Souring Point of the Game has to be a Met rally against a Duaner Sanchez that is clearly faking it at this point --- such that he wanted nothing to do with Gary Sheffield --- evaporating as Jose Reyes GiDP'd on a 2-1 87-MPH fastball up out of the zone. Uggo.Wright is looking a lot like he did early last year --- not yet having his mechanics down to drive the ball to right center, but still getting a hit per night by pulling the low pitch. It really looks like this park could eat up Wright's power away, at least early in the season, but none of that matters if he continues K-ing at this rate.Gary Darling was punching Mets out on outside pitches off the plate was a frustrating thing, and it may have gotten in the Mets' heads. Delgado already had fouled off two outside pitches in that last at-bat.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Had this been at Shea, I would have walked out a bit more grumpy. No offense to speak of after inning 1. "One Bad Inning" coming over to visit with our starter again. I guess the whole new ballpark honeymoon thing had me feeling less mad than I would normally.Highlights were getting to meet MetFairy and Kace, and watching the little Solos blast 4 HRs combined at Kiddie Field. (if you have young kids, take them there...even if you have to wait on line it is worth it; it doesn't take too long, and the kids love it).

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Maine twice fucked up sac bunt attempts, that definitely interfered with the O.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'm not worried. Four of their five losses were by one run. The other loss was a two run loss (8-6 v Cincy).
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'm still not worried either...disappointed, but not worried. Like batmags said, a bunch of 1 run losses. And, not for nothing, but the Mets have also played some of the best (overacheiving) teams early in 2009.We need to spank the Brewers, though.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'm just not comfortable with the feel of this group yet. I wanna do a poll to see whether you think they got "it" or not.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I don't anticipate any post-season baseball this year.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I just don't think our starters beyond Santana instill fear in the other team , I certainly don't feel optimistic when they take the mound.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'm not sure they have to. I like going for a stockpile of good starters, and not killing ourselves for greatness.Eventually, more great may emerge from the goodness.
