stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Braves vs. PhilliesDerek Lowe (starting to regret not going after him and resigning Ollie) debuts for the Braves against Brett Myers on ESPN 2.And something is going on at CBP apparently tonight as well. Some sort of flag raising or something or other.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Gold-trimmed uniforms are douchey unless we're wearing 'em.Yay, baseball '09!
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Don't worry Brett, they're just pop-ups.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Starring Brett Myers as Eric Milton.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Myers is getting lit up. Two innings pitched, 4 runs on 3 home runs.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Escobar just barely misses taking him deep to the farthest part of the yard.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Cranky Old Man here. Maybe there should be a thread that is baseball-related)Why is this game being played tonight? They are going against over 100 years of tradition. The baseball opener every year is supposed to be in Cincinnati.I guess they aren't a national tv draw.sighEnd of crank.Later
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I think they've started w/ just 1 game the last coupla years, no? Do they let the champs play the first game now, then everyone else the next day or something?'Cause I could get behind that. It's a neat, odd thing and stretches Opening Day into 2 days.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 The Cincy thing has died several deaths now.Maybe it's payback to Marge Schott for being so awful when John McSherry died.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Derek Lowe, ground ball machine.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 The Sunday night debut exists to feed ESPN's Sunday night package - although the Cincy 1st game tradition died years earlier than that. The first game has been on Sunday night for many years now while the trend of having the defending champ host the game is slightly newer than that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Coupla hits and a walk and the Braves have turned a 4-0 lead into 4-1 and the tying run is at bat in the rather large form of Ryan Howard ... 1 out.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Howard Ks looking - lefty Mike Gonzalez hurling).Up to new acquisition (and reported object of NYM lust) Raul Ibanez ... and he Ks swinging and the Braves take over sole command of 1st place!!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I watched the first 4-5 innings. Funny how things change from a few years ago. I enjoyed watching the Phillies get smacked around, even if it was Atlanta doing the smizzacking.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Speaking of John McSherry, which I was, I'm thinking that Moises Alou was the last active player who was in the lineup on the day McSherry died.
