Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I didn't like either movie, but I hated Caddyshack, so I voted Porky's.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Duh. Caddyshack by a country mile.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Voting Caddyshack primarily due to Bill Murray's performance.

You hated Caddyshack? How come. I realize it's a collection of set pieces -- but there are some real classics in there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I don't remember too many specifics... it's been about a quarter century since I saw the movie! I do recall hating that dancing woodchuck, or whatever he was. I recall him doing the twist or something from within a hole in the ground and I was so glad that the movie was finally over.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Stupid fun vs stupid stupidity.Shack all the way.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Both have a broad range of action almost overwhelming the main conflict of protagonists Danny and Pee-Wee, both feature explosive climaxes. Both feature themes of institutional discrimination but don't deal with them terribly convincingly. But it's the 'Shack, Jack. And it ain't just 'cuz Lacey beats Honeywell in the battle of overheated nymphs.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 My senior year of high school was spent in Los Angeles County.A producer of 'Porky's' had a child in my class and offered a test screening to the seniors as a sort of 'Senior Night out' kind of event. The administration was supposedly assured that the movie - while a bit racy - was definitely not inappropriate.Needless to say we seniors had a rollicking good time which was only added to by the faculty's utter embarassment in front of the PTA for approving the screening. All that being said - I voted for Caddyshack because of Carl Spackler, and the late great Judge Smails.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Frman99 - "Duh. Caddyshack by a country mile."Yup Not that Caddyshack is some cinematic masterpiece, because it's not, but it certainly outclasses Porky's. This is a match up where JCL could have just as easily awarded a bye and saved us all the trouble of voting.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Or he could have put The Right Stuff into the brackets instead of Porky's.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 If this was a boxing match, the refee would have stopped it long ago.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Its a #1 versus a #16 seed. What did you guys expect?

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 That must have been before we learned how wacky the real-life Tom Cruise is.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Caddyshack 24, Porky's 3
