They're in the bottom of the fifth already? Did they start this thing at noon, or are they just blazing through the game?

I agree with you on that--the batter that hits a GB that brings in a run is 0 for 1 but a batter that hits a flyball that brings in a run is 0 for 0. E.g., on Thursday night, the Mets had 2nd and 3rd, nobody out. Delgado, batting 4th, hit a GB that scored a run and advanced the runner to third who scored on a Beltran flyball. Delgado directly lead to 2 runs but was 0 for 1 while Beltran was 0 for 0.

i assume, because a ground ball inherently has a level of fielder's choice about it that a fly ball does not.

Maine has loaded the bases with one out in the fifth -- 2 walks and a single.

92 pitches with one out in the fifth? Not so hot, John.

And our heinous bails him after a very good sequence of pitches.

So what was the call on the whole Maine-Reyes thing.

Maine out on Fielder's Choice and Reyes counted as a tag?

The DP throw sailed wide, but Reyes was judged to have made a move towards 2nd and was tagged out before getting back to 1st by the catcher backing up the play.

Beltran needed to put that ball in play to get the run home, not wiff!

Evans has looked better lately .

Poll question from a game the other night.

What Player Has Had The Most Impact Since Getting Called Up After The All-star Break?

1 - Greg Jeffries

2 - Timo Perez

3 - I forget

4 Daniel Murphy

I missed who the fans voted for , anyone see ?

Bullpen needs 12 outs with a 2-run cushion.

I'm thinking we may be some Ayala-on-Pirate Action today.

It was Murphy by a landslide -- thus proving the short-memory theory.
- Jefferies start was clearly more impressive although one could argue that that team was already winning.
- Timo's splash was a much smaller sample but its timing was key.
- Murphy's has been nice but not nearly as good or as long as Jeffereies and it's not like it's turned the fortunes of the team around.

The kid for AA doubles but the veterans in the heart of the order do nothing to get him home--of course it comes back to bite them.

Too many HRs for Stokes already, 3 in 10 innings or so.

If it makes a difference, Maholm isn't anybody's idea of an easy assignment. Gotta keep grinding.

Tatis walks to lead off the 7th.

Would be nice if Easley/Castro/Cancel (the presumptive pinch-hitter) could get something done.

Easley has hit into 4 DP's in 7 AB's according to Gary.

That's hard to do even if you're trying.

Gameday has Stokes throwing 8 straight fastballs to Pirates PH Chris Gomez, before Gomez finally singles.

It's hard to criticize when watching via gameday, but maybe -- just maybe -- a different pitch once in a while might be a good idea?
