Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 (edited) It strikes me that a former big-leaguer on the shuttle about to get sent down --- Armas or Nixon, for instance --- would do well to start grabbing something and yelling "ouch!" when it looks like they're going to be sent down.Armas' contract pays him a cool (pro-rated) million if he's on the 40-man, but only $90,000 in the minors. He has to clear waivers anyhow to return to the minors, so the Mets might as well remove him from the 40 if they're going to try to do that. And, if the Mets are at all shy about losing him on waivers, they have motivation to let him cry injury too. Edited July 9, 2008 by Guest
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 There's probably some truth to that, but they have to check him out, right? There has to be some injury, even if it's minor. You can't just stash guys on the DL indiscriminately.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Maybe you can't, but I have no doubt its been done and will be done again. I can only speculate beyond that, and I'm not accusing anybody here, only stating that "it strikes me" that there's motivation.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 He's like the smug boyfriend played by William Zabka in "Back to School," pretending he's got a cramp so he doesn't have to dive.Which, of course, led to the Triple Lindy. I think that says it all.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 A Zabka reference is a good sweet cherry on a sundae of a day.
