Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 According to MLB Gameday, Rick Ankiel just hit one into the parking lot, but Beltran somehow tracked it down and caught it.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 How many fucking home runs was that tonight? 5?
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Damn it!!! Troy Glaus hit one that even Beltran and Chavez couldn't catch.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) Lunchbucket - "How many fucking home runs was that tonight? 5?"That's only the fourth home run of the night for the Cardinals. Glaus has 2, Ankile and Duncan each have one. If they get to keep facing our pen, they'll likely get a fifth one.* This game is a lot less fun suddenly.*Upon edit: It's late, I'm tired and frustrated. The Cardinals won't need a 5th home run, since Glaus's shot was a walk off game winner. Another gut wrenching loss. Edited July 2, 2008 by Guest
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Tell me Gameday had a typo and Muniz wasn't really in there.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 We already used Heilman. We already used Smith. We already used Feliciano.Sanchez unavailable.Would you have used Schoeneweis instead?
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Absolutely horrible. To have them battle back from 4-0 and 5-4 and have the bullpen piss it away is just unacceptable. That game reminds me of everything we saw from mid-September on.

Though absolutely horrible, to me, is more like a 9-0 loss to Sidney Ponson and the Yankees. The offense showed up two games in a row, which is rare enough, against a top team. We could have easily had three more runs if Beltran hadn't been playing like a sucka. (I think he gave his uniform to his younger brother and let him play last night.) I can build on a game like this. Edited July 3, 2008 by Guest

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 I watched the last three innings on TiVo-delay this morning before heading in to work. Was very surprised to see Muniz given the ninth inning, especially with Pujols, Ankiel, and Glaus due up.When he got the first two out, including a heart-in-the-mouth warning track catch by Beltran on Ankiel's drive, I was thinking he was actually going to get through it.I guess not.Even though two of the three hitters were righties, I might have gone with a more experienced Schoeneweis. But instead, even though it wasn't a "save situation" I might more likely have gone with Wagner. There probably wouldn't have been a more dire situation later in the game. Those were three tough hitters.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Fuck saves. In a game tied in the ninth I go with my top releiver every time unless there's a left-right mismatch or sometihng. And he better be prepared to pitch the tenth also.Armando would.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 Maybe not EVERY time. (Like if there are three soft hitters due up.)But with Pujols, Ankiel and Glaus? That was more of a Wagner spot than a Muniz spot. This is the first Jerry Manuel decision that I strongly disagree with.

We lost the game with our best late-innings pitcher on the bench while sending a rookie out to pitch to the heart of their order.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Nuts, isn't it? And Randolph said he had some kind of understanding with Wagner that he'd only get save situations.Tear that shit up, Jerry.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 The real failure was Feliciano. He has been the most atrocious reliever I've ever seen with a sub-3 ERA.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Could you imagine Davey Johnson going through an extra inning marathon with McDowell or Orosco kept out of the game until he burned through Sisk and Gorman?

At least they're pitching when the team needs them, save situation or not.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Well, some managers bring their top reliever into tie games.
