I don't think this year is as bad as last year was. I just don't.

Now, maybe the bad stuff that goes on is much more apparent than it was last year, but I don't think the volume of shitty play is any more than it was last year, when, IMO, we went around playing shitty ball for most of the year. In fact I'm saying here it's less. I'm saying 2008 kicks 2007's ass.

What do you say?

Talent-wise, sure. Santana, Church and Schneider are all significantly better players than those that they replaced.

Performance-wise? Not so much. I am concerned that with the exception of Church and Schneider -- and perhaps too soon to tell for left field -- we're getting less offensive output out of each position than we did last year.

If I'm measuring 2007 up to May 20th vs. 2008 up to May 20th, I think I just barely take the 2007 squad.

If I'm measuring all of 2007 vs. the potential of 2008, I think I just barely take the 2008 squad.

Voting for the 08 squad , I really think that this team is a good winning streak away form getting this season going on all gears.

2008 is kicking 2007 down the hall.

Santana is far better than Glavine which strengthens the rotation compared to last year. Pelfrey seems to have improved over what he was able to provide last year as well. The return of Duaner Sanchez has been a boost to the bullpen corps.

Castillo isn't great, but I prefer him over the second base committiee the Mets had to employ last season. Church has shown that he is a substantial upgrade over Shawn Green, both offensively and defensively. Schneider has shown the ability to get on base and is better defensively than LoDuca. The pitchers seem to like pitching to him. Overall, I think this team is better than the one that opened the season last year.

The 2008 Mets still have their flaws, but I think they are a better team than they were at this time last year.

2008 has been disappointing in spots but not in the same spots 2007 was.

That's true. But I also see no reason to think that (possibly excepting first base) that won't change.
