bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) Nice description, Grimm, calling it "Swoboda-like." Edited May 15, 2008 by Guest
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 That's a good situation.Delgado has the infield in I assume.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Carlos, give us a fly ball for a sac, please!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Delgado smokes one, but it turns into a game-ending double play.
Guest Grote15 Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 OK...this may have done it for Willie Randolph....I predicted May...

Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Horrible. Absolutely horrible.
Guest Grote15 Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Any takers that this is the breaking point for Wilpon? It would be for me but I'm a nowhere man.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Fnerp. The Mets are suck. Losing 3 of 4 to these Nats is just awful. Someone punch me in the neck.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 3 out of 4 and 5 out of 7 against two sucky teams. If they get swept by the MFYs, maybe 2 out of 3, Willie's gone on Monday, or he should be.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 This is demoralizing. Pelfrey pitches the game of his career and they can't score a single run behind him - Blech!

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Willie Harris being interview by Ed Coleman right now. When he entered the game, MASN showed a graphic which stated that he lead the league in appearances as a defensive replacement. I laughed because I never saw that stat before. Now we know why he was in the game.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 You can write this one off to a Murphy's Law kind of game but when you get 8 hits (or whatever it was) over two games you're not going to do a lot of winning.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Nats continue in the Expo tradition of being a thorn in the Mets side.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Mets now at 20 - 19 , 4 - 6 in the last 10 games , they've been a .500 team for far too long now .
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I do have to wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Willie. What happens this weekend could be pivotal for him, although not necessarily for the team.If they win two or three in the Bronx, I think the vultures will back off for a bit.If they lose all three (I'm gagging as I type this) I think the calls for his head might grow too loud to be ignored.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 FAN reporting that Wagner took some shots at his teammates after the game. Something to the effect of "I didn't play, ask the guys who played. Oh, they're not at their lockers are they?"
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I can see why Wagner has been beloved everywhere he's gone.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 The press goes to Wagner because they want him to say something inflammatory. He should have said "no comment." Or, "we gave it a good try, the boys tried hard, we'll get 'em next time." What he said was his version of "no comment."
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 From Adam Rubin's blog:Wagner rips teammates for ducking mediaThat undercurrent of discontent over some Mets ducking the media boiled over after the game. As reporters spoke with Billy Wagner after the loss, first about the Yankees series, then about todays game, Wagner wondered aloud why the closer was drawing attention. Then he went Paul Lo Duca-esque, minus the racial component. He looked over toward the area of Carlos Delgados locker and blurted: Someone tell me why the (expletive) youre talking to the closer. I didnt even play. Theyre over there, not being interviewed. I got it. Theyre gone. (Expletive) shocker.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Good name for a band: Expletive Shocker.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Wagner talks like a guy with way too much job security. At the very base of it, I don't really care whether Delgado talks to the press or not after the game. I just don't. Sure I'd prefer we had guys who the press all loved and stuff but just as Wagner's guaranteed $$ and no-trade clause makes him brave enough to say whatever he wants the same applies to guys who choose not to talk.Rubin today wrote about how the writers were mad that Santana told them all no interviews the other day but was chatting up a spanish-language press; ans also, when he did talk, he lied about whether he knew he'd be startinbg in the MFY series.I hate to suggest this but when every game has pre and post game TV coverage, there's 2 weekly magazine shows and there's an official house organ on the Internet providing news and highlights, how much more do quotes about the game delivered in the newspapers matter? Not much.
Guest KC Guests Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Shame the Mets lost today. Watching replay, I enjoyed the visit by Eddie andArt to the upper deck outside broadcast perch. Howie too.Feel bad for Pelfster.Funny line when Howie said something about bringing his first date to Sheaand Keith chimes in, "when was that five years ago?"As for Wags, shut the fuck up, and keep up the good year you've had so far.
