More Willie on the Hot Seat Stuff. (And Omar, too)

Bob Klapisch on ESPN.com:

"One person familiar with the thinking of owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon said 'the honeymoon is over' for both Minaya and manager Willie Randolph. After failing to win the pennant for the past two years, Mets ownership is giving the GM only one more month to establish control over a weak National League East.

If the club is still a middle-of-the-pack team on June 1, Minaya will be asked to assess whether Randolph is getting the most out of his players and if he's the right man for the job. Fair question: Since May 18 of last year, the Mets are just three games over .500."

Probably best to avoid cabs as well.

Actually, the Mets will be in SF then-- cable cars, rickshaws, pedicabs, and assorted bicyclists would suffice.

That's one hell of an ambiguous source.

So this means what exactly ... that if the Mets aren't in first place by a comfortable margin with 100 or so games to go then heads start to roll?

I'm not buying it.
Playing poorly at that point is one thing, but demanding that they "establish control" or else ?!?!

And, btw, the "weak" East division is the only one above .500 so far.

Typical Klapisch -- tearing down the Mets without so much as an on-the-record source who can be held accountable.

"When asked to produce said source, Mr. Klapisch looked in the mirror."

Weak NL East? Wasn't everyone before the season hyping this as a three-team race with among the best teams in the league?

Or former GM's still bearing a grudge.
